With the large numbers of falsehoods found in your book so far one might as well ask about the
invasion of the body snatchers- scientific explanation or divine intervention .

I've asked the same question myself. I've never gotten around to looking into the biology involved in this passage, I'm sorry to say, since I don't understand it.

Divine intervention is always a possibility when it comes to God, but this isn't characteristic of the ways that God had manifested himself during the time of the patriarchs. Add ot that, the passage suggests that it was something Jacob did that caused it, without mentioning God having anything to do with it.

I'll be looking into this one in the near future, if only to appease my own curiosity.

God blessed Jacob, because Laban had made a deal with Jacob about which sheep and goats he could have, but then Laban kept changing what he had promised. Read the whole story in Genesis 29 & 30. †

Laban was a man of deception. He purposefully sent Jacob the wrong daughter on his wedding consummation night. Marking the goats was God's way of keeping Laban straight this time around.
