It's called "false pregnancy" syndrome.
She should have been fixed (spayed) long ago,... poor thing, her hormones are in disarray and she's a prime candidate for mammary tumours among other female health problems.

Its called false pregnancy.
Spaying will stop that. Spaying also decreases the risk of cancers and serious uterine infections.
Pyometria is one serious infection an unspayed female can get. Its fatal if untreated.. the only way to treat is to spay and put the dog on antibiotics.
Edited to add:
A dog should not be bred before spaying.. there is absolutly no need for it. Its not "healthier", and there are risks associated with mating, pregnancy and whelping. A litter also does not calm a female down, mature her, nor is it necessary for her mental health. An 8 year old dog is far too old to have a first litter anyways.
Some people may believe that a first litter is necessary, but its just not true.

It is usually just called a false pregnancy.
To add a bit to "nekkiddoglady": Not only does breeding prior to spay not have any significant affects on the female, it can actually increase the chances of cancer. Most female cancers are all but eliminated if done prior to the first heat. The chances of cancer are greater for each heat cycle experienced until about 2.5 years. After that, a spay has little significance on the chances of getting female cancers.

It's called false pregnancy and there's an increased risk of pyometria in females that have had it. I would get your female spayed to prevent the chance of her getting it as it requires expensive emergency surgery to remove the infected uterus. What can be a cheap spaying, would turn into an expensive emergency. Get her spayed!

lol yer my dog did the same thing .. she went the whole but.. she went around collecting bits of material and soft toys and made like a little bed behind a huge drawer . also her breasts started to get filled up with milk .. we took her to the vet and he said she thinks she is pregnant her hormones were playing up , ... then he gave her a injection it kinda helped but not really at the start then it worked she hasn't done it since .. even after her last time on heat .. last summer as well... sometimes you have to watch out because they are more likley to get pregnant after their on heat then when they are on heat.. if your annoyed that much you should take her to the vet. good luck

I donot know whether there is a real name for this fake pregnancy thing, but I remember when I was a kid we had a dog doing the same thing, they build a nest and things like that, she may even produce milk like dogs who act like surrogate mothers. I found that in an answer to one of my questions. It goes away by itself I remember so patients is the key here and the fact that you have her 8 years tells me you can bear with her.

Ur dog should have been spayed years ago, u wouldn`t have his problem now. Some say u should breed the dog once then have her spayed, but at 8 yrs, she may be too old now for puppies, consult ur vet for accurate info.

Get her spayed. It is likely a false pregnancy or Pyometria, which is a uterine infection. Now is the perfect time to spay her since she just got over her cycle.

Haha, dont mean tolaugh, but my parents have a dog that does this. It has actually come in handy for me. She produces milk whenever i bring a baby animal to their house, and if they wont eat for me, she nurses them. I think its adorable and has saved many an animals life. Yes, spaying her would probably stop this, but its not like its going to kill her. Good luck.
