Ann, keeping a weave for a long time is tricky. I recommend you go to the salon that did your weave and consult with them. My preference is to re-do them frequently, rather than trying to maintain them for long periods of time. Remember, your hair grows 1/2" per month, and that changes how the weave looks.

You will keep on looking good wearing a weavy hair done by a hairstylist for a long time if you will have it maintained regularly. You may wear a wig of such style that you like if its okay with you. Keep your scalp and hair clean daily.
