Everyone gets drug tested at MEPS. It takes 3-5 business days for them to get results back, I think, but if you test positive, you'll receive a letter from them telling you. Although I remember them saying at MEPS that a lot of times, (especially now) you can get waivers for certain drugs, as long as you don't test positive again, you're fine. (But remember any history of drug use can disqualify you from certain military jobs)

It takes time to process all of the drug tests that they take. So when you take a drug test before you go to boot camp, they probably won't have the results for weeks, possible by the time that you get to bct. if you fail you will be discharged from there.

The drug test is shipped off to a lab and takes time to get the results back. If you joined and direct shipped to basic there is a change you will be notified in basic training and discharged.
If your in DEP your recruiter will be the one to give you the bad news.

They have to send the sample to a lab. That takes time. Here's a surefire way to avoid all this: don't do drugs.

If you fail, why would they waste the time and money to send there and then send you home packing?
