....I wouldn't have thought so. But they are not an obese nation - by any means.

You gotta see it, big slabs of cheese on their bread / toast.

Oh and their bread is another storey in itself. Not the typical white / brown loaf we would be used to in the UK / USA, but some 5 Ton brick of heavy dark, seed-infested stuff that I cannot stand. I dropped the loaf once and broke my foot! -joke-

But anyway, we are not talking Kraft slices here, it is at least real cheese.

So what do you think? Can cheese be a better alternative to butter / marg?

I grew up in a Danish family, of course the cheese would be a much healthier choice. It contains proteins, margarine and butter do not. The bread you are speaking of is probably some sort of predominately Rye bread. although there are probably other grains in it including wheat. Rye bread is excellent. I wont go a day without it. Very high in fiber and proteins aswell. Go ahead, FOLLOW THE DANES! Their country is number one afterall!

1 the cheese the dane's eat is most likely real cheese.
the cheese that people in the US eat has trans fats and other artificial garbage in it.
2 the bread in the US is also junk even most of the whole grain breads if you read the label has white flour in it. some brands have up to 50%.
3 even the butter can not be trusted to be real. many have transfats in them

these are the reasons that so many people in the US are FAT.

i would say that real whole grain bread and real cheese.
would be the best.
real whole grain bread and real peanut butter(check many brands have trans fat added) is good. (nuts are good for the heart)

Well, I'm a Dane, and I must say I laughed about your comment about our 'rye bread'. Not all Danes put cheese on their bread and some put both butter and cheese on it. I think, however, that cheese is healthier than butter...

My mom could positioned cottage cheese and somewhat jam (you need to use sugar-unfastened) on it; then pop it interior the broiler until it puffed up. It tasted like a Danish pastry then ...... attempt apple butter; cashew or almond butter; hummus; cream cheese

i think both butter and cheese have a lot of cheese in it. bit i perfer to put butter. a lot of people like cheese on it because i is like haveing a sandwich. i think it would be good. we should try it.

Both have good source of Vit D which is needed for Calcium absorption and to prevent osteroporosis. Both are rich in proteins esp peanut butter.


However, I took a test under this article and it agreed with me that butter has more saturated fat. To a certain extent we need saturated faty acids. Although, lately, the hype is to avoid monosaturated , polysaturated and trans fat.

Right!! - Two tbsp of cream cheese contains 6.4g of saturated fat, but the same amount of BUTTER has over twice that - 14.6g!


Note the high sodium content in butter. Butter has a high saturated fat and trans fat content( hydrogenated vegetable oil) and high cholesterol content. Butter is very high in both saturated fat and cholesterol . In fact, butter is even more atherogenic than beef since butter contains a greater content of those saturated fatty acids which are responsible for elevating blood cholesterol levels. Margarines also contain 3 to 10 times as much of the natural antioxidant, vitamin E, as butter. Since partially hydrogenated vegetable oils do not contain cholesterol or high levels of saturated fat, they are often promoted as heart-healthy. This could be considered a legitimate claim only for those soft tub margarines and diet margarines whose first ingredient is a liquid vegetable oil.
