Its a very viable question.

It is very useful to know the name of the interviewer your are going to have the discussion with. By getting a name and their respective position will benefit you in 2 ways -

(1) First, getting the name will keep you prepared when you meet them and a name sets the "personal" tone, allowing the interviewer to know that you have done some sort of research. This helps him/her know that you are interested.

(2) Getting the position they work as really helps because you can then prepare for the interview accordingly to what they know. If you are applying for an HR assistant position and the interviewer is a data analyst, they may emphasize on your technical/analytical abilities. However, if they are the secretary, you may just be tested on your communication skills, confidence, past experience, etc...

I hope this helps.

When you show up for an interview the person interviewing you should introduce themselves. Know how your point of contact is before you go in. The sweetest thing in the world to hear is someone calling your name. Make sure you get the pronunciation correct!

Yes and write it down so that when and if you need to write that thank you for the interview letter, you know who to send it to. . .

an interviewer should always introduce themselves , and that gives you the chance to introduce yourself . If they dont introduce themselves it would be ok in my opinion to introduce yourself and then invite them to do so.

why not? they know your name? why can't you know them? and more often than not, they will be more than your 'interview-er' but most likely, your boss.
