How does this apply to pain management??
If you are talking about the older methods of music recordings vinyl albums and some cassettes were labeled as A and B sides. On the 45 rpm records, the b side was a secondary song used to fill the space when the principal song for release was called the A side. Usually songs which were on the b side were not very memorable and not listened to often. But on occasion the b side would actually be better received than the A side and become a hit.
Hope this is what you wanted. It has nothing to do with pain management, however.
As a point of speach, I have heard some people tell patients the advantages of a procedure, and say "on the b side" and then list the disadvantages. This was more common when records were actively for sale.

Yes, LPs, 45s, 78's -- all have 2 sides! The HIT SONG is on side "A" & a lesser known song by the group is on the "B" side.
However, quite a few times the "B" side has become more popular than the "A" side -- once the huge audience of record buyers has had a chance to hear the "B" side, but usually the "A" side remains the HIT SONG !!!

Vinyl Records have two sides
Side A
and
Side B
Side A has the best songs and Side B has less than the best songs (usually)
