From my experience,
Christians only take the parts they like from the old testament.
If you bring a part they dislike, they say we don't have to follow the old testament.
Then, they force others to do what it says, and they say it is part of our history.
For example,
Christians eat pork, even though the old testament says it is prohibited. They say, we don't have to follow it.
Christians prohibit relative weddings, however, there is nothing in the new testament that prohibits it. So, they bring the old testament to prove their point.

NO IT DOES NOT. The New Testament and Old Testament are names given to those books by the Church. It was done this way to keep the people away from learning about their Jewish roots. Emperor Constantine captured the pagan customs of Rome and mixed them with the emerging religion of Chrisianity thereby founding the Roman Catholic church - but this was paganized Christainity, not TRUE Christianity. True Christianity followed the Hebrew customs, celebrated Hebrew holidays and did all of the things that Yashua - (Jesus Christ) - did. But due to the military might and the ruthless persecution of true Christians, paganized Christianity won out in the end and due to the fact that the Hebrew Christans would rather DIE than convert, Constantine did all he could to remove everything Jewish from the Christain religion - but he couldn't erase the Torah, the Books of the Prophets and the History of Israel - so he gave it a new name... ...the OLD TESTAMENT. And as they say, "out with the old, in with the new". That is not to say that the New Testament is bad - far be it from that. But the new testament is nearly impossible to understand if you do not have the background of Torah that is found in the "Old Testament". We are being lied to my friend, but the good news is that the truth is right in front of us. The Devil loves to hide things in plain sight, that way he can blame YOU for not seeing it. Shalom

If you were taking about the time of Moses then the NT is a correction of the OT.
Moses made the laws in the OT because the Jews were stubborn.
Did Jesus condemn Mary Magdalene? When the people wanted to stone her to death.
Jesus said man was not made for sabbath but sabbath was made for man.
Jesus healed the sick during sabbath day. His disciples didn't fast.
Lk 6:6-11
On a certain sabbath Jesus went into the synagogue and taught, and there was a man there whose right hand was withered. The scribes and the Pharisees watched him closely
to see if he would cure on the sabbath so that they might discover a reason to accuse him. But he realized their intentions and said to the man with the withered hand,
“Come up and stand before us.” And he rose and stood there. Then Jesus said to them, “I ask you, is it lawful to do good on the sabbath rather than to do evil, to save life rather than to destroy it?” Looking around at them all, he then said to him, “Stretch out your hand.” He did so and his hand was restored. But they became enraged and discussed together what they might do to Jesus.
If you were taking about the prophecies in the OT then the NT is the fulfillment.

it added to the old testament but with nothing actually new you just have to look outside the narrow view of only two religions . Study Mithra , Krisna , Buddha and confucius , or the old egyptians 2000 bc you will find it's all been done and redone but better yet you will discover why it takes the form it does . if you had a kind heart and a good character you would be better than most of the believers that overcomplicate believe in fables and superstitiously founded thinking .

Jesus and Mary were foretold in the Old Testament.. A continuation.. Another poster commented that Jesus added an 11th commandment to love one another.. And the sermon on the mount presents great guidelines/teachings for Christians today..
Take care..

The NT builds on the OT because the OT talks about our Savior and His coming, and the NT shows His walk and work and sacrifice.
As I've heard various Christian teachers say:
"The New Testament is in the Old Testament concealed. The Old Testament is in the New Testament revealed."

Jesus added aditional commandment of "Love one another as I have loved you." and put this above all other commandments. If you follow this commandment ALL of the time, you would not need the others, correct?
The new testament also considers times of change and changes some of the laws of sins.
It is about time for a newer testament.

Not sure where you're going with this...if you believe in the whole Christian thing then, "yes" you should follow the teachings of Jesus - the Old and New Testaments are not in conflict - one is about the history of humanity, one is about Jesus and how it relates to the future of humanity...what's the question?

Absolutely we should be doing the same things!
Aside from the Temple service and the Levitical priesthood, the Law of God has never been rescinded.
1Jo 2:3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
1Jo 2:4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
1Jo 3:22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.

Jesus ( Yeshua ) King of the Jews. As a gentile believer I'll have to in a sense be prepared to give him up one day.
