I don't suppose it technically matters on the oven part. In my experience, gas ovens have a tendency to run kind of hot and ruin whatever it is I'm making.

Either way, I'd spring for the $4 oven thermometer, just so you're sure. My oven is super hot and I have to set it on 300 for it to register 350. (Damn apartment electric stoves...)

Gas, all the way though, for the stovetop.

gas ovens cook more evenly and are preferred for baking.

for simple stuff like cakes and cookies, an electric oven isn't going to make much of a difference. When it comes to more complicated recipes, the oven is hotter above that big metal rod that turns red when the oven is on, and not as hot in an area that is not directly above the coil.

if the electric oven is preheated long enough, the coil issue shouldn't "ruin" anything, but because it there can be differences in evenness, the gas ovens are recommended. (You can also rotate the baking sheets, but only if you're cooking something sturdy enough to handle being moved around halfway through cooking)

My preference is for a gas oven.

In fact, I'd rather bake in a dutch oven over coals than us an electric oven.
