I have 3 female cats.
The oldest is a 16 yo DSH named Bonnie. She has a wonderful purrsonality, talks alot, loves to snuggle and is still very playful. She loves my husband and sleeps on my pillow with him (I work midnight shift).
The next is a 14 yo DLH named Kelley. She is very shy, but sweet. She has been diabetic since she was 9. She calls 'Ma Ma, Ma Maaa' when she wants to snuggle. She will also give me kisses when I ask!
Then there is a cat I adopted as an adult. I have had her for almost 8 years and believe she may be as old as 10-11 years. She is fine with me but is afraid of my husband and stepson. There is no reason, they are affectionate and gentle with her, so I can only figure it is something from the time before she came to us. Her name is Lilly and she is a DLH.
I have to mention my guardian angel, my beloved Maybelle, who crossed the rainbow bridge after a fierce battle with renal failure. She was 17 years old. She had the most special purrsonality of any cat I've ever known!

I've found that female cats are more likely to get an attitude than males. Tortoiseshell cats are particularly known to do this. We just call it the "Tortie attitude". None of them are mean, just feisty. My girls are named "Towser" (named after a cat at a distillery in Scotland that caught more than 20,000 mice in her lifetime), Callie Wallie Kitty Witty Queen of the Kitties, Flaming Agnes, Bunny Airplane Ears, Tiny, Roxie Hart, Rosette and Willow. They all look different and are different purebred breeds but they all come when called because they know there will be a treat somewhere.
I've also found that some kitties are just naughty -- I don't know if its because they're so smart or what -- but it's part of a cat's personality so it doesn't make any difference if it's male or female. I have one cat that looks guilty whenever anything happens so he usually gets blamed.

I've had both male and female cats and both have been as naughty as each other! but still beautiful all the same. I have a 9 month old female russian blue which I named 'Smudge' who just gave birth to 5 gorgeous little kittens. She's a bit naughty but shes still just a kitten herself so you have to expect that!

I have a female cat now, her name is Samathea. She is a very gentle girl, and hardly ever needs to be corrected for her behavior. She is very playful, and likes to sit near us. The few times she has had to be told No! I felt I had to be much softer about it than I am with my male cat, because Sammie might get scared or hurt from me being too harsh with her.
In the past, I've had only one female cat - Katie - who did not want to follow rules. She was a very bold cat, not afraid of anything. I can think of three other female cats I have had - Suzie, Pachisi, and Silver - who were all gentle and easy to teach about what they were allowed to do.
Hope that helps, if you were wondering if a female cat would be a good choice for your family.

We have 1 female & 3 males. We lost our other female a few months ago, she was 16 years old.
Our girls have been sweet but definately the 'alpha' cats & the one we still have doesn't associate very much with our boy cats, unless it's *her* idea.
