You cannot collect unemployment if you are disabled, period. Unemployment is only if you are unemployed through no fault of their own AND actively seeking full-time employment. As soon as you indicate you cannot work due to your injury, you will lose the case for unemployment.

Your lawyer handling the work comp claim can best to tell you what to expect as to how long it will take to collect and how much, if anything.

You could file for Social Security Disability Benefits if you have been or are expected to be certified medically disabled for over 5 months; however, unless you are terminal, you will be turned down on the first attempt and have to reapply. Most people have to hire a lawyer to sue on that and it takes 2-3 years if you are permanently disabled.

You can apply to your local Social Services agency and see what benefits you may qualify for, if any.

You could also contact your local trustee and see if you qualify for any immediate temporary relief for payment of rent or utilities (meaning, they would pay for that month only).

Most communities have food banks through churches; some have pre-qualifications through welfare/social services, others do not.

If you didn't fill out the claim, how do you expect to receive the benefit?

since you pay into unemployment, you should rightfully be allowed to use it when needed, and not have some asshole decide whether or not you qualify. when you are up there tommorrow.....say this, tell them all to "suck your ___".......if you are female, you hafta think of something else i guess. good luck.
