I was a Navy recruiter and was friends with the USAF recruiter. Air force standards are the highest because they recieve the highest number of applicants. They all think they are gonna fly.lol They don't realse it takes a ground crew of 6 or more to keep one airplane flying. :)

Anyway without spending the weekend reading the recruiting manual. Here are the top 4 things that disqualifed Air force Applicants.

1. Low ASVAB Score. Gotta have an afqt of 50 minimum.
2. DUI or any other alchol related offence or any drug conviction.
3. 3 speeding tickets in one year.
4. Screws, pins, plates in body aka major reconstructive surgery.

The first 3 I could get a waiver and used to call those people that Disqualled from the Airforce. Used to get an interested applicant 1 of 3.

Keeping a relationship going is hard in the military. With both serving the chances are real slim. I have met 2 people in my Navy career that had spouses also in the navy or another service.

The highest in the class average standing after your speciality school picks first out of what's availible. If the place you want is there great, maybe you'll have to settle for 2nd or 3rd choice. All depends on where they need you at the time.

I think bad scored on your ASVAB will disqualify you. But once u get past that you just have to keep outta trouble until u are sent to BMT (Basic Military Training). Then for 6 weeks and 4 days, your butt belongs to the Air Force! They will try to tear u to peices but always remember whenever they are yelling at you, just pick a spot in front of you and stare at it. All it is is a mind game to see how you handle stressful situations.

I suggest go for it because the money and pay is great! The only thing u can lose is some time with your family for a few weeks, but you gain a whole lot for a stable future!

When u get to BMT you are interviewed to select your "Preferences" on where to be stationed but absolutly nothing is guaranteed. Just think that if you join the Air Force, you will get to go places that you may not have even gotten the chance to go to!

My suggestion is to go for it!

There are over 250 medical and psychiatric conditions which can disqualify you for enlistment. The link below is for the PDF version of the Standards of Medical Fitness. That's the Army Regulation which all branches of the service uses. Take some time this weekend to read it.

I was in for 4 years, and both of my stations weren't on my dreamsheet for bases. It's all luck of the draw, and has nothing to do with what you want. Its based on the needs of the military.
