Ok..I'm a bit scared because I've been told my dogs anal glands are impacted and need to be expressed. I told my whole family to book an appointment for my dog but they just abuse it. Its been several months and I cant do anything about it. Im trying to get my drivers liscence as fast as a I can so I can drive him. Will my dog be ok after like 4 months of them ignoring this? Will he die? IS he in pain? Any advice would help please! Im kinda scared?

heres a professional answer:

WHAT HAPPENS IF AN IMPACTED SAC DOES NOT GET EMPTIED?

An abscess can form and rupture out through the skin. This is a painful, messy and pretty smelly condition often mistaken for rectal bleeding. If an anal sac abscess forms, it must be properly treated by your veterinarian. Antibiotics will be needed.

and from m own experience and knowledge, it is not fun for them. it is a 60 sec. procedure. if your desperate, go here:

they tell you how to do it yourself....

but seriously, get the dog to a vet

Who told you they were impacted? Not that I'm arguing but sometimes you can do more damage if you try to do it yourself and nothings wrong. If they are, go to the link and figure out how to do it yourself, it's nasty but it can help. My friend at the dog parks girl Allie got an abcess that ruptured while she was licking her bum. The bacteria got into her nose sinuses throat and eyes. She had such a severe infection she almost died and her owner never knew what was going on until she started acting ill. If you cant get the dog to a vet or groomer do it yourself. To help with this process, give your dog a spoonful of pumpkin with every meal. This will firm up his poop so that he naturally expresses them when he goes. You can buy the canned pumpkin at the grocery store, make sure its not sweetened already. Your mom shouldnt object to buying this.

I'd call the vet and find out how much it will be.. it shouldn't be much.. maybe the family is afraid of the price.. the other thing to do is see if there is a vet within walking distance or something.. It can get worse, and it is painful and annoying.. it is not a difficult thing to do, but if you do it incorrectly it will require a vet anyway.. I saw what happened to a schnauzer that had a groomer do it incorrectly.. that was a mess.. it was swollen, pussy, inflamed, became infected.. (Not my dog, it was while I was waiting for my dogs vet)

Okay, really not pretty.. but here:

Is there a pet store with a grooming salon within walking distance? Most groomer will do this for you.

Try feeding it more raw meat and edible bones - the firmer poop will help to drain the sacs naturally. It is often the soft poop that commercial fed dogs produce that leads to these problems.

Anal glands can abcess and cause the dog alot of pain. You need to get them expressed. You can always do it yourself using gloves place your pointer finger just on the inside of the anus and your thumb about 2 o'clock and gently squeeze. do the same at 10 o'clock.

The longer he goes, the worse it will be for him. What jams posted is true, they can rupture. Can you get a friend or relative to drive you?
