...then why has every single one of the nations who truly declared themselves "atheist" been among the most oppressive regimes on the planet?

(For example;

Khmer Rouge Cambodia
Soviet Russia
China
North Korea
etc.)

Is atheism really better?

A correction:

Hitler TOLERATED religion. He was personally an atheist.

Just to clarify, I am certainly not saying that there have not been or even currently are not oppressive religious regimes. I am saying however that atheists almost always use the claim that "religion only causes suffering" to justify their intolerant hatred for it. Atheism has no cleaner a slate than christianity in the suffering department.

brat

Your info is patently wrong. Read Marx some time. All the countries mentioined officially regarded all religion as a detriment to society. They just differed slightly in the barbaric degree they were willing to go to to try and snuff it out.

Again Ev... My point is to make this distinction to atheists who act superior because "christianity causes suffering" it's exactly the same kinds of errors you are talking about. My only point is that atheists have no moral highground if I apply the same standard to them that they apply to christianity.

It's because they forced atheism upon the people. It would be no better if they had forced Christianity on them. That is only one symptom of a fascist government-there are a lot of other reasons those states were so oppressive.

It's no secret that the countries with less people practicing their religion suffer more as far as their country as a whole. A country is blessed by devout practicing believers. But "Jesus allows the rain to fall both on the bad and the good."

The whole world is blessed by every good person. The whole world loses something good because of every stubborn person that knows the truth about God and still rejects Him. Yes, the countries that are the most affluent are the ones that are FREE to live the way God designed it, not in a Communist setting.

Today is 911. America has truly been slipping in how it has lived since the 1960's and before. America must pray a lot and put an end to abortion, materialism, and selfishness if we wish to remain blessed.

Our country is blessed because it was built on brave people who risked their life coming here so they could live in a country where they could practice their religion FREELY.

"I will bless them down to the 4th generation." We can't keep riding on our ancestors obediance. We have reached the 4th generation right about now. Now America will be judged by it's own works, prayer and trust in Jesus. Lord have Mercy on U.S. Amen.

There is a difference between organic atheism (natural to the country) and enforced atheism.

Taking a believer and trying to force them to no longer believe.

You cannot make a true believer into an atheist, anymore than you can take an atheist and make them into a believer.

That is where the problem lies.

But look at Sweden, Norway (organic atheism is prevalent in this countries), and they are very peaceful countries.

Religion is a struggle for power and influence. Greed is the underlying cause of the worlds evils.

Just a couple of counter points. Dark age christians. Roman Catholics. Puritans. The british empire. Even Nazis and Klansmen will justify themselves in there religious right. How bout any given middle eastern country? Religion is the puppet used to control others. Sorry man

Iran is oppressive and its pretty religious there.

Who said religion is the root of all suffering anyhow?

Believe what you feel is right for you, but keep your eyes open and listen to all sides. Don't follow blindly and question authority, whether it be the bible or anything else, and you fill find the answers you seek. But only after thorough questioning and reflection on what you know to be true.

Actually what all those repressive regimes have in common that is far more important than official atheism, is the fact that they are all communist. Communism is a failed economic and social system. However, there are still people insistent that if only THEY could be allowed to run things, THEY could make communism work. Its nonsense. Communism and its principles are contrary to human nature and will never work. Its a pipe dream, much like the concept of a personal Jesus.

because atheists are lying. because when pushed to extremes, atheists see people as mere materials. they are not after ' freeing ' the religious from their ' ignorance ' but only want to conquer them. they know that religion is main stumbling block for them to impose their will on other people. atheism is basically about self and materialism. how can one believe or trust an atheist to ' help ' him when the atheist is only thinking about himself and getting material things for himself? in that sense, atheists see other people as mere tools and therefore use.
them to attain their objectives.

in the movie aliens, the android masquarading as human is programmed to see to it the mission is not jeopardized. this android maybe likened to an atheist, he does not believe anything or care about the crew but only about the mission. he will sacrifice the entire ship and crew for the mission - to get a specimen of the alien. the android is not hindered by any feelings whatsoever for the crew. he would kill the entire crew when the need arises. his true identity and mission is in fact hidden because otherwise the humans would not trust him much less have him on board.

some would now say, but the android was programmed by a human. precisely, someone is programming the android with a hidden mission. if you were 'converted' to atheism, what do you think is the hidden agenda and mission of the person who converted you? to save you from your ignorance?

This has nothing to do with people's personal ways of thinking. What about those countries whose oppressive regimes stem from religion itself?

For me, atheism is better, but I am not the leaders of those countries, therefore I cannot speak for them.

There is nothing wrong with embracing the teachings of Jesus. Organized religion is in it for the money. Christ would have thrown the whole lot of them out of the temple. Those regimes you list were not very nice people.

Actually, my belief is that selfishness is the root of all evil. For example, people who don't care about others are the ones hurting people. Selfishness keeps us from sharing our wealth with starving nations. Selfishness keeps people polluting the earth when everyone knows it is killing mankind, wildlife and the earth. Selfishness or greed is also responsible for many illnesses...because our crops are sprayed with toxins that kill people...to increase profit. Wars are started because people will not share and/or they are jealous. It's all about self-absorbed people. Isn't it sad that when people are given freedom, they are not always appreciative, and instead, become extremely selfish?
