Cystic acne is treatable with Accutane. Unfortunately it comes with a booklet that you (and your parents, if you're a minor) have to go over carefully, due to side effects (which are many). But I have seen it work wonderfully on most patient. Only dermatologists can prescribe it so you may need to get a referral from your primary care physician to see one.
It is more troublesome for female patients as she must go on birth control pills (regardless if she is sexually active or not), and if she's sexually active, her partner must use condom. She also has to get pregnancy test every month, along with other lab works (Liver function test, CBC, complete blood count, and lipids).
For boys, we don't have to do pregnancy test obviously.
It's not to be taken lightly, but when it works, it really works. Do discuss it with your doctor, please, about the pro and con of this medication (there are generic versions now--a bit cheaper). Never never try your friend's or get it in the black market.

Dry and/or greasy skin due to poor oil composition of the skin. Thick greasy oils clog pores, lack of oil leads to dryness and irritation. You need thin oils to moisturize while dissolving and clearing gunk in your poors. Try fish oil or seafood. 2 tsp fish oil a day or 4 servings of seafood a week. Stick it out for at least 2 months; it will take a long time to replace all your oil. Any effect after 1-2 days is temporary or random; so even if it makes you break out a little at first, you haven't given it a full try yet.
In the short term you can wash and moisturize well, but that will only go so far. Plus excessive washing can be drying and excessive moisturizing can be clogging. Use a small amount of a light moisturizer, made with oil not jelly or grease. Often that means soybean oil or mineral oil. Mineral oil means mined from the ground. So soybean oil is usually better, though mineral oil won't cause too much harm. Clean with soap and water, not a harsh acne cleanser. Even then they only work so well. So you really need the seafood.
Antibiotics aren't really good for bacteria long term, they'll come back in force after. Short term they may help. After you get off them find some kefir with acidophilus listed first or 2nd to replace the friendly bacteria they destroyed. Studies show less illness when you have these bacteria, even outside the stomach in places such as the lungs and elsewhere. You want friendly bacteria to fill the void when the antibiotics stop, not harmful ones.
In the short term you might also try 100,000+ iu retinol vitamin A (a megadose, and too much for normal use) or one of the acne drugs that is similar to retinol vitamin A. It's some minor harm to your organs, but it helps against bacteria on your skin. At least it doesn't have the other long term drawbacks to your skin that antibiotics and many scrubs do.
If you would like to learn how to treat your acne permanently and regain your health and wellbeing, without drugs, without typical acne treatments, and without any side effects, then this will be the most important letter you will ever read.

Cystic acne is pretty hard to treat by your self. I really suggest a dermatologist. Ask order scarring, what has worked for me was Hydroquinone. They don't sell hydroquinone by itself, it's always mixed with something. I've been using 2% and it has done wonders for me. The highest percentage I think they sell in the US is 2%. Any higher needs a doctors prescription. I have dark spots and hyper pigmentation from the acne i had and this really worked for me. Basically what hydroquinone does it does deep down in your skin and prevents the new cells from making the dark pigment. Since cells hav memory, they "remember" about the dark pigment and they produce it. But Hydroquinine stop the new cells from being pigmented.

Hi
This easy, effective method uses one kitchen-cupboard herbal ingredient, and calls upon the power of a warm compress to open pores and allow the healing benefits of the herb to work on blemished skin. The compress method is more comforting and quicker to use than a facial steam, but is every bit as effective.
SIMPLE SOLUTION: Here are the simple how-to instructions to help clear troubled skin:
INGREDIENTS
1 quart water
1/2 to 1 cup dried thyme leaves (for a VERY strong infusion)
1. Bring the water to a boil in a saucepan. Remove it from the heat and add the thyme. Cover the pan and steep the mixture for 20 minutes, then strain out the herbs and discard them. Let the infusion cool to warm. (You should be able to put your hand in the infusion and keep it there for several minutes without discomfort.)
2. Soak a clean washcloth with the infusion and wring the excess from it. With your eyes closed, place the washcloth on your face for 15 minutes. Remove the washcloth from your face and apply an astringent.
good luck
peace

I just saw an endorsement on TV by a lady who claims to have had cystic acne. She had used Clean and Clear to completely rid her face of it! Now, this was an advertisement, so move carefully. Check with your physician, first.

DO NOT TAKE ACCUTANE!!!!!!! i cant stress how much accutane hurt your body. accutane have long term side effects, and dont necessarily "cure (there is no absolute cure for all the acnes)" the symptoms; accutane just slow shoot i gotta go. just avoid processed sugar
EDIT: so yeah, okay. this would only be the case for those with oily skins... your possible problem is consuming sugar. sugar reacts differently to many people. for many people, eating pixy sticks, chocolates, and Cinnabon at the same time wont aggravate their acnes, but for the rest of us, thats not the case. i know because one day when i added chocolate chunk cookie from starbucks to my ordinary diet (which til that day, didnt have any effects on my acnes), and BOOM, blemishes, cystic acne, white heads suddenly appeared the next day. "a little gas, a little spark, and.. BOOM! Big fun!" so yeah, just ignore that quote, i just wanted to say that. anyway, just try avoiding sugar; i know its extremely hard, i know. i went through it, you just dont see any non sugary green teas sold at the vending machines and convenience store now, do we? just from my curiousity, why do girls wear make ups? i mean, they dont really look that good with makeups lol. do i hear low self esteem? :D nah im just joking ,foo. you must be athletic, thats cool. what do you do for living?

Hi,
You don't need any meds.
Try vitamins.
A good Vitamin B complex helps you maintain healthy skin tone and a deficiency in vitamin A can cause acne.
