Because they are so self-righteous as to believe that their beliefs are the only ones that should count.

This is AMERICA for goodness sake, not China. You don't have that right here. You have the right to believe what you want, and you have the right to only join organizations that believe what you want, but you do NOT have the right to tell everyone else what they want. That is the basis for the whole country being formed. Freedom from having one group tell all groups what they must believe.

Not to mention that marriage, as defined by law, is nothing more than a contract. And to deny two adults the right to enter into a contract based on sexual orientation is discrimination.

Just keep in mind, the exact same type of people used the exact same reasons to deny the vote to women, blacks and others. The same old reasons were also pulled out for interracial marriages.

I have no problem with a church not wanting to perform a ceremony between two people of the same sex, as they already do not have to perform any ceremony they choose not to. I just don't understand their hangups. It is not as if a gay couple would sue the Mormon or Catholic church for refusing to perform the rites.

And trying to convince close minded people with historical data and facts is useless, the only facts they believe are some of the pages in the bible. And you can't even get them to agree on which pages to agree on.

Just keep speaking up with the truth. Discrimination of any form IS discrimination and wrong.

Marriage has been "redefined" many times. Several hundred years ago, marriage was not about love, it was arranged. All of this changed. Marriage will be redefined when a majority of people accept gays for who they are and understand that their love is as valid as anybody else's.

I doubt that allowing gays to marry would redefine anything. Marriage is merely a civil contract that requires specific performance. I think that two men or two women could do that quite well.

You're right. It's a fallacy of logic - Argumentum ad Antiquem. What is traditional, or what was usually done in the past, is not necessarily right and certainly not a valid argument for opposing gay marriage.

-Atheist for gay rights

interior the U. S., states difficulty marriage licenses and the federal government recognizes those licenses... different than the federal government would not yet understand marriages of comparable-gender couples using unconstitutional DOMA regulation. This has no longer something to do with a spiritual doctrine or a dictionary. those issues can define marriage in spite of the undeniable fact that they choose for, however the government could handle human beings the two. You referred to polygamy and (consensual) incest. the comparable-gender freedom to marry isn't the comparable difficulty, of direction, using fact the polygamous freedom to marry or the consanguineous freedom to marry. in spite of the undeniable fact that, if all contain consenting adults, all could be criminal, regardless of whether all people is disgusted or no longer. by ways, all polygamous marriages contain a minimum of two human beings of the comparable gender, and there are consanguineous relationships that are comparable-gender. we choose for extra beneficial than purely one extra freedom to marry. we choose for finished marriage equality and relationship rights for all, so as that an person is loose to proportion love, intercourse, place of abode, and marriage with ANY consenting adults, without prosecution, bullying, or discrimination. I implore human beings to no longer in user-friendly terms upward thrust up for their own magnificent to marry, yet anybody's magnificent to marry.

Moral societies would not suffer such a thing. Good people know right from wrong and choose right.

Today's person mocks hell and allows things that are vile because they are so far gone. Only among these "gonners" can gay marriage even be taken with a straight face.

Because the homophobes have yet to wake up and smell the 21st century. They're afraid of the men and women who are bold enough to go through life ready to face judgement and ready to keep on living their lives as normally as they can. They're changes... differences. And they may never redefine their soon-to-be archaic views. Homosexuality is out there, people. Just embrace it. (Or if that's TOO dramatic of a change, stand in the vicinity.)

I think Christian divorces are more of a "threat" to the family than "gay marriage."

Hexley,
GOD instigated Marriage in the BIBLE and HE is against any homosexual relationship in Both the Old and New Testament. Thus if a union is to be then it should NEVER be considered as a "marriage". Have a wonderful week.
Thanks,.
