Does anyone know a dessert recipe I can make with baking powder and vegetable oil (not butter, I only have margarine and it's salted!). I also have eggs, flour, sugar, cinnamon and sprinkles. It can be a baked or fried dessert. Any ideas? I'm really bored and want something sweet. And one more thing, I also have apples and pears. Thanks

First, in most recipes you can use margarine.. it is rare that they aren't interchangeable in baking. But as you said you didn't want that.... here is a sweet treat.

Bunuelos
"Mexican fried cookies."

4 eggs
1/4 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon vegetable oil
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon salt
1 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 cup vegetable oil for frying

1. In a large bowl combine eggs with 1/4 cup sugar and beat until thick and lemon-colored. Add the oil. Combine separately 1-1/2 cups of the flour, the baking powder and the salt. Gradually add this to the egg mixture and beat well.
2. Turn dough out onto a floured board (use remaining 1/2 cup flour) and knead thoroughly until dough is smooth.
3. Shape dough into sixteen balls. Roll each one into a circle about 5 inches in diameter. Let stand uncovered on waxed paper for about 10 minutes.
4. Heat oil in a deep fry pan to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Fry circles until golden brown, turning once. Drain on paper towels. Sprinkle with sugar/cinnamon mixture. Store airtight.

You can also make Fried Apples.... cut the recipe in half if you don't have that many apples... I don't even use a recipe... just cut up the apple, fry in butter and add sugar and cinnamon until it is bubbly and coated.

FRIED APPLES

1/4 lb. butter/margarine
1/2 c. sugar
8 Golden Delicious apples, cut up, unpeeled

Add all ingredients into a covered frying pan. Cook for about 15 minutes or until soft. Add cinnamon and nutmeg to taste. Serve warm.

You can use your salted margarine in your recipe. Just leave out the salt in any recipe you use. You could make a nice cobbler with the ingredients you have. I'd mix the apples and pears for a nice blend in that cobbler!!

You can, but the brownies will have a very definite Olive flavor and smell.
