I am Mormon, but I accidently let some words slip sometimes. I am not perfect, and I do my best to avoid such language.
Let me put it this way... I would not want the good Lord standing beside me or appear behind me while in company of such language, whether by me or another.
It shows no class, and it makes even the cutest guy/girl look ugly. I would much rather get a laugh out of someone by saying "oh shizzen-gizzen-gard" then say "oh sh*t".
Be creative! And don't make yourself look uneducated by using such crude language.
What does offend me is when someone uses the Lord's name in vain. That is completely uncalled for!

Don't think that the Mormons have a monopoly on not wanting to hear swearing Is it really necessary to swear, curse, use profanity, foul language? Call it what you will. It's your mouth it's coming out of and if you don't mind hearing it, then go on. But please do it in the privacy of your own home. Why do you think that other people want to hear it? They don't! You don't get no respect for it from decent people. But then again if you don't hang with decent people then perhaps it doesn't matter at all. Why not watch your tongue when you are around people that might be offended by foul language? Does it cost you anything? As a man speaketh so he is. Speak nasty? Then you must be nasty. Speaking with a soft tongue doesn't make you soft though. It means that you are well brought up. Plus I am sure the ladies would prefer a nicely spoken MAN and not a foul mouthed lout. But it really all depends on how much you respect yourself. Just because you may have grown up using language of the streets doesn't mean that now you are older and should know better that you can't rise above your lowly beginnings and better yourself. I wish you every success and happiness in the future. Good Luck.

The LDS Church has this to say about swearing/profanity:
Profanity is disrespect or contempt for sacred things. It includes casual or irreverent use of the name of any member of the Godhead. It also includes any type of unclean or vulgar speech or behavior.
We should always use the names of Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost with reverence and respect. Misusing their names is a sin. Profane, vulgar, or crude language or gestures, as well as immoral jokes, are offensive to the Lord and to others.
Foul language is both degrading and harmful to the spirit. We should not let others influence us to use foul language. Instead, we should use clean language that uplifts and edifies others, and we should choose friends who use good language. Setting an example will encourage those around us to use clean language. If friends and acquaintances use profanity, we can good-naturedly encourage them to choose other words. If they persist, we can politely walk away or change the subject.
That being said - google j. golden kimball -
He was sometimes known to use course humor and even mildly swear in his talks. When radio broadcasts began, some people were concerned about his choice of language. (When once asked if he was afraid that his language would get him kicked out of the Church, Kimball is reported to have replied, "I can't be cut off the Church; I repent too damn fast!")

Street slang does not equal foul language. You can call your shoes lace and your chicken feathers or whatever their saying on the street these days.
I view swearing kind of like smoking. I can't tell you not to, but it is inappropriate in some places. I really don't like it when I'm playing basketball in the church gym and people cuss. That is not appropriate, and I'll say something about it. If we're having a conversation and it keeps happening, it's like someone blowing smoke right it my face. It's not polite.

To me personally, using the name of our Savior or God in vain is very offensive... I do not look down on others, it just hurts my heart to hear their names used in an irreverent way.
All other swear words, except probably the "f" word, just roll through one ear and out the other. I guess I am just used to hearing those words so they don't bother me as much...personally though I see swearing as a sign of ignorance.
But, oh well, I don't make other's choices for them. I have asked people before not to use certain words around me and most have been nice enough to stop.

So if you wouldnt swear at a business meeting or formal dinner then why do you have to cuss in everyday life? I fully understand being raised around foul language but is it neccasary for you to do it to? Street slang is fine its when you start using the cuss words like g**d***, s***, a **hole, and ***** that most mormons would be offended.

I don't swear and when others swear around me I never say anything or look at them -- I ignore it (it's their choice to swear).
Inevitably after a while of people hearing me not swear they start apologizing to me when they swear. -- I always say the same thing -- "no worries"
I never put them down I don't ask them to apologies nor do I even encourage it. They feel bad about doing it on their own -- they already feel guilty for doing, but they ignore their guilt until my "not swearing" makes them aware of their guilt.
I'm not asking them not to swear and I am not going to start swearing to keep others from feeling their own guilt.
Just my experience

I don't really get offended by it. sometimes it even slips out of my mouth. I think people are only offended if thy let themselves get offended by it and that is their peoblem if they do. They only ones I would really worry about are the F word and taking the lords name in vain those are not cool, but all the others I really wouldn't worry about it too much.

DJ - While I'm a Christian, not a Mormon, I find foul words very disconcerting. They aren't appropriate in polite company. It might be cool in the areas where you hang out, but in the business world, it's not even slightly cool, it shows a person's ignorance and insensitivity.
Just my thoughts ...
