Well they told me in Sunday school some weird crap about plants being around before the Sun. I was about ten, but that was absurd. So it got me thinking.
And you don't "convert." You either believe in a god, or you don't.

I read this stuff out of complete curiosity. I am not an atheist at all. All I can say to you is look deep within yourself and feel the energy inside you. Even when you sleep, your spirit is moving, never still, like a dream. ...
Time is an illusion, Einstein even said it. It's transient and constantly fades away. Don't hold onto it, let it go and go with it's flow . . . We are just passing through this life. What happens today may not even be a foggy memory 10 years from now... how real was it in the first place? It doesn't last and neither does our pain.
Religion is man made. God isn't. There is a great universe out there and there is much to learn from it. Go through life with an open mind and you will surely find your way and it will be shown to you. Some things have to be believed to be seen, it's the law of the universe. When you open your mind to this you will see. You can even ask for proof and you will get it, but it's up to you to believe.
When we don't get our way, we loose our faith. It's just a test to show you how strong your faith really is. That's all. It's a test you really want to pass. Faith is the cornerstone to finding peace. When you find peace, you find God.

I never believed in any gods - just like I never believed in any superheroes.
But only when I grew older I realized that some people *actually believe this stuff*.
Read The God Delusion, understand what religion is and how it works, and be saved from it forever. Email or IM me if you don't have a copy handy.

I grew out of my faith. My approach to dealing with problems is to try to cope with it myself, and if it's too much for me, I go to family and friends. You don't have to rely on yourself for everything. Just because you leave the church, doesn't mean you can't find a supportive social network. When I do stupid things, I have to answer to my own conscience, and I ease it by avoiding that mistake in the future; instead of asking God to forgive me. When I do great things I give myself the praise I deserve instead of passing it on to God. When others help me, I give them the thanks instead of God. I've found all this works much better for me. I've actually become a more ethical person because of atheism. I hope you find atheism works better for you, too. If not, I hope you find something that works for you. Good luck.

I was a Christian. I belonged to three Christian religions before giving up on religion. I read the Bible five times before realizing that it was all not true. I was a Deist for a while before realizing that I actually did not believe in god, or Jesus' divinity, or anything else that was supernatural. It's all so selfish and exclusionary...as well as just a bunch of garbage.

I grew up Jewish, but mostly secular. I kind of eased my way into it gently, by way of agnosticism. I don't really have a specific approach, I just take things as they come, try to remember the big picture, and try to live life the fullest - as far as I know, this is the only life I get.

Not really, I was a christian before I start to really read the bible instead to flipping to the pages of what the pastor think was right.
I deal with the problems of my life as before, bite my teeth and deal with it. Praying would not work. We are responsible for our own doing, we are responsible for our own problems.
Think really hard, especially on the social stress you will be getting before you revert back to atheism.

I grew out of it. Black female, from mississippi, southern baptist background you would of never thought. I chose to expose myself to something different. I just realized that religion is used for control and boy, I found so many documents and books and movies that supported that.
Being an atheist has been a "lifesaver" for me simply because Im not leaving a life of fear anymore and religion is just that. FEAR and CONTROL. I chose to control my life; not some deity and thats logical to me.
If I ever need religion, I'll pray to a chocolate cake!

I used to be Christian, but after I stopped hearing about God everyday, I began to think on my own. It is easy to be pulled into a religious way of thinking, especially without a good understanding of the universe, but it's important to question everything.
My approach to problems is that you need to learn from them, not to dwell on them, and find comfort in friends/family/whatever makes you happy. We have only one life, so it is important to make it count.

I was always an atheist, but I have studied (not in depth, though) many religions, Christianity in particular. None of them seem to work for me, and I think that if you want to convert to atheism, it's always a sensible thing to do.
