Seriously, does anyone really think that God will send all of those who aren't of a certain religion to hell just because of that? And not take into consideration that all they've ever done is follow Him and His gospel? I don't think he would. What do you think?

Sorry, I was referring to Christianity not Hinduism or anything of the sort. And the commandments in the bible. But it's not some people's faults that they aren't taught certain things.

God doesn't care about what denomination you are. There will be many different demoninations of people in Heaven. What God does care about is what you do with Jesus Christ. Jesus said, "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No man comes unto the Father except by me." So as long as you have personally accepted Jesus as your Savior because of what He did for you on the cross, you will be in Heaven with Him some day. It won't matter what "denomination" you were.

I agree with you. I often wonder if stories from the Bible and such are obsolete due to the fact that we have scientific reasoning to explain things nowadays. I think religion for a lot of people is something that becomes a part of their identity when they grow up, so to stop believing would feel like a void in their lives. The stories that they learn when they are young might help those individuals understand the world better while others who are not religious just don't seem to have a clue. I also learned in psychology that there are two types of people; people who think that they are completely in control of their own destiny and other people who believe in "faith" and there being an external power that ultimately controls their life. I grew up in a household where logic and reasoning prevailed spirituality, therefore, I don't necessarily believe there is a God but then again who really knows? There are so many religions (I believe) because over the years many people thought THEIR version of the story of the first "Bible" was more correct and so on. It will be interesting to find out whose version, if any, was right once we pass on. Another thing I want to add; perhaps back in the day when people did not have guns and a way to "force" people or convince a society to behave, perhaps someone made a book and claimed that a greater power would punish them if they did not follow certain rules (i.e. 10 commandments).. Kind of like how we adults tell children to behave so that Santa Clause will reward them with lots of gifts.

If you're a Simpsons fan, you surely remember the episode where Homer decided he was no longer going to Church with the family. One of his reasons: "But Marge, what if we picked the wrong religion? Each week we're just making God madder and madder."

Most religions have some sort of provision that theirs is the TRUE religion, and some even call for the death of those who don't believe (think Christianity during the crusades, or radical factions of Islam today).

Christianity certainly has no shortage of Bible passages saying that you must believe these certain things in order to get into Heaven, for example:

-John 3:16
-Galatians 2:16
-Ephesians 2:8
-Acts 16:31

...and many, many more.

However, I personally believe that God will welcome people based on how they BEHAVED, rather than what they BELIEVED. There is some Biblical support for this viewpoint, as well:

-John 5:29
-Psalm 62:12
-Jeremiah 17:10
-Ezekiel 18:27
-Matthew 16:27
...and many others.

Ben Franklin once wrote, "I think vital religion has always suffered when orthodoxy is more regarded than virtue. And the Scripture assures me that at the last day we shall not be examined by what we thought, but what we did…that we did good to our fellow creatures. See Matthew 25."

I believe that if you've truly turned your heart to God, you'll keep His commandments as expressed in the Bible. If another religion's morals, ethics, values, or "commandments" don't follow that of God's, you won't do them because you know it's against Him. So, if you're following the TRUTH of the Bible, the teachings of Jesus, by name, yes, you would be considered a Christian.

I know people like to say, well if He's a loving God, He's not going to send all the good people to hell. I think that's something people have come up with to sugarcoat the Word of God and to make living their lives "easier." Truth, is the Bible says that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. No man comes to the Father, but by me. (John 14:6) The only religion that satisfies that criteria is Christianity. Other than that, no, there's no other way. If you're going to follow the gospel, you have to follow it as He said, not live your life following your own pleasures, but seeking to do the will of God and please Him.

I think that anyone who rejects Elohim as Lord and Savior will end up in the Lake, yes. Of course there are some who make it I guess. few, very few.

commandments come from religion, no? how can one follow commandments one does not know then? for example, human sacrifice is something that the Bible says God detests. so if a person thinks they please God by murder, they have disobeyed a commandment, no?

God looks at the heart. thing is, if your heart isn't for God, then you don't belong in Heaven where He is. I believe those who can't make the decision to follow make it (mental disabilities, never heard yet sought the Lord, etc) but of course, His sheep know His voice.

All the Abrahamic faiths are pretty clear on this. God cares, and God is going to f*** up anyone who gets it wrong.

Anyone who disagrees with this is not reading their Torah/Bible/Koran fully.

Edit:
Why is it that some Christians think 'other religions' just means other versions of Christianity, and ignore the 4 to 5 billion people, 2/3 of the world population, who do not believe in any version of Christianity? Are their minds really that small and closed?

If you are from a different "religion", then you are following a different "god", and more importantly, you are following different "commandments" since each religion has different, and sometime contradictory, commands.

===edit==

Jesus said in chapter 14 of the Gospel of John that God would honor anyone who obeys the commands of Jesus, so it probably does not matter what church that you go to, as long as it honors Jesus and honestly tries to follow his commands.

1.) I'm not Christian, but Jewish. I believe there is a G-d, and I try to follow all of G-d's mitzvahs (commandments). No human is perfect, and G-d understands that, I think.

2.) I don't believe in the concept of hell. I do, however, have a strong inclination that we are reincarnated after death, but I don't have definitive proof, so I'd never try to push that belief on another person. Part of me thinks that we create our own realities, and if heaven or hell is a part of yours, then it could be possible to spend your afterlife there. Never say never, I say.

3.) I can't fathom why someone who believe that another person is condemned to eternal suffering for not following the flock. I've never understood it. Crazy zealots, thinking I'm "evil" for not having the same doctrine as they attempt to abide by, but rarely ever do....

Only problem with that argument is if you follow the commandments of God and follow him then you will be a Christian. There is no way to avoid that at all.

Those who follow Christ and the commandments will be with him in heaven. This is true whether you are a professed Christian or not. The Catholic Church actually has a doctrine called the Anonymous Christian concerning this.
