While it is quite common for dealers to trade with one another, this is done by dealers of the SAME Brand.
So your favorite GMC/Buick dealer cannot trade & get you the same incentives from a Saturn dealer.
It has to be Saturn dealer to Saturn dealer.
Or Buick to Buick,,,, etc
Not Saturn to a GMC dealer.
sorry...
EDIT & NOTE**********(09/11/07)
Since I set my filter to "United States questions only", I have answered according to US franchise laws & restrictions,& assume that the question is a US question & also assume that you would want to keep everything LEGAL
In my experience, the only LEGAL way for one franchise to "cross over" to another franchise would be if ALL of the legal paperwork was signed & the vehicle delivered through/at the original franchised dealership.
If a dealer has an affiliated dealership of another brand, they have been known to process the legal paperwork at the originating dealership, but use another facility (your dealer of choice) to physically deliver the vehicle.
Although this is not exactly legal to do, it has been done.
I have sold brand new Dodges & Mercury's through our "sister" stores (same owners, different franchise/facilities). When this is done I have personally brought my customer (or met them at) to/at the other dealership & processed all the paperwork there.
A trusted salesperson, can also assist you in the purchase of a vehicle at another brand/dealership. (I have done this MANY times, as I have friends & customers that work for other manufacturers)
So in answer to your original question: It can be done, if your dealer of choice has an affiliated dealer & is willing to "bend" laws & dealer/franchise agreements. I prefer to answer & do business to the letter of the law & have been doing so since 1983.

The only way that a dealer can sell a car that they do not have a franchise for is if it is a used car, at least in the USA! There are some dealers that own multiple dealerships, each with different franchises. For example the Sheehy Auto Group, and the Ourisman Auto Group each have multiple locations. The do not sell all brands at all locations. A salesperson can arrange for you to purchase a different brand, but the actual sale is made by the dealership with the franchise!
If your dealership ownership does not also own a dealer that sells the car you want (in this case a Saturn) they will not be able to sell you one!
Ethol is totally correct in her comments, and should remain in the auto business. We need more knowledgeable people in the business!!
Sheehy and Ourisman used as examples. There are auto groups all over the country!

A non franchise dealer cant sell a non franchise NEW vehicle-it violates franchise laws. The poster that said it could be done, needs to do more homework.

No, it is done quite regularly. Dealers trade vehicles to make their customers happy, it is good for everybody. The last time a dealership brought a car in from another dealership for me, the price was actually $400 cheaper than the other dealership was selling it for.

no it wont hurt anything ,they do it all the time for good customers, some car lots and dealers will go out of their way to help you find the car you want, its called good business, they can get the car so you will still receive the incentives you would as if you was buying it from them, which you will be once they take possession of it,good luck on it.

Sure. Dealers swap cars all the time. It should not affect price, though the dealer might try to convince you to pay more money. Do not leave a deposit. If you must, do it with a credit card so that you have a way to get the deposit back if you decide to back out.

Kat ,as long as it is a GM ,Ford, Dodge,Chrysler, whatever they will service it. See the money made isn't on selling a car , it is the "Service Dept" that keeps dealerships going
