Everything has its pros and cons.
Unix (such as Solaris) has always been my choice for large stable servers doing standard internet things. Web server, or email server, or news server. I applaud their efforts if it makes it easier to install and manage (two of Debians high points)

Somehow I dont see it rushing to replace Linux (small startup do-everything) net server which handles newer toys.
Or Windows the full-of-toys and pretties which might trash your machine desktop-of-choice

In fact I consider those to be counter to each other. An effort to become those would trash the good points of Solaris
