For those of you who aren't Muslim, "haraam" essentially means sin.

Anyway, that's really a gray area. On the one hand, for the person buying the raffle ticket for the point of winning the gas, yes it is gambling and therefore haraam if they're a Muslim. You, on the other hand, are only selling a ticket for the stated interest of raising money for your school. My law school training would tell me that because your intent is to raise money for your school, and because you aren't profiting directly from the sale, that you're not committing haraam.

You may want to ask your parents, though. I think this is something that has to be decided on an individual basis. I'm sorry I kinda gave you a non-answer!

a raffle is a kind of lottery

simply being told that you have to sell raffle tickets is not gambling

those who buy the tickets are gambling
those who sell the tickets are technically not gambling, but they are enabling others to do so

Sounds like it. I mean, from the schools perspective it is fund raising. But the students who buy tickets will be gambling.

Fund raising might be different for your case.

Ask an Alim..........

Gas is 35 cents a gallon in Saudi so I would say its supporting Big Oil extortion.

DEPENDS
IF ALL MONEY IS GOING TO SCHOOL AND 100 IS GOING FOR THE GAS OK

IF $100 IS GOING TO GAS AND 500 TICKETS SOLD THEN SOMEON IS MAKING A PROFIT OTHER THEN A LEGALLY RECOGNIZED NON PROFIT ORGANIZATION THEN IT IS ILLEGAL

IF MONEY IS MADE FOR PROFIT THEN ILLEGAL
