First of all make sure the cranberry juice you are drinking is 100% juice. The cranberry cocktail is only ~10% juice and does nothing for you. Second, try eating yogart or something with live cultures. Live cultures help kill the bacteria that cause bladder infections. If you re female, having sex could also contribute to bladder infections. I thrusting actually pokes at the bladder and if it is already iratated, then it will make it worse. If you are not feeling better by the third or fourth day, you should talk to your doctor. The antibiotic should be working enough to kill enough bacteria with in that time period to stop the pain. Of course, you have to finish the entire perscription to totally get rid of it. If you are still experiencing pain, then two things could be wrong. One, the antibiotic is not strong enough, or two, you may have built up an immunity to the antibiotic perscribed. If that is the case, the doctor will have to do a culture and that will determine if your body is immune to the antibiotic. I am not a healthcare professional. I don't even work in the medical field; however, I am 32 years old and I suffered chronic bladder infections from the time I was 3 until I was about 29. I was born with a tiltled bladder. My bladder would not empty all the way and I would always get bladder infections. I almost feel like a professional. I just thought of something else. If you are feeling pain in your lower back along with this infection, even after you started the antibiotics, you want to let your healthcare professional know that as well. It could spread to the urinary tract and the kidneys if not stopped in time. Be very careful. If you are experiencing sharp pains in the lower back, see your Dr. immediatley. I hope this helps and I hope you feel better soon. Remember, try yougart .

Sarah:
So sorry to hear that you are not getting total relief from pain. However some medications take 7 - 10 days , (or more), to take full effect. Also, if you have not been on this antibiotic regimine before, it may not be effective for you. (Make sure you go back and read the information sheet that came with the medications, (from the pharmacy). You will find that many drugs can be rendered ineffective, or greatly reduced in efficacy by certain over the counter medications, foods, or beverages such as juices - like grapefruit juice, cranberry juice, milk, - etc.
So first thing, read the information sheets, and see if you are taking anything, or eating or drinking anything that might be counter acting the efficacy of the medications that you are taking.
Second, make a list of all other Rx and over the counter medications that you are taking, pluis vitamin supplements, and any diet pills, or energy drinks, stop smoking patches, birth control patches or pills, - etc.
Next, call your Phamacist and talk to him about this. Ask him how long before the prescription medication prescribed for your bladder infection should have you totally pain free. Then also let him know all of the stuff you are taking listed in the paragraph above, and see if he thinks there is a problem with any interaction between the medications you are on and the rest of the things that you take or eat or otherwise ingest.
If your Pharmacist can see no problems, and thinks that the drugs prescribed are working as they should, then you should consider calling your doctor's office and talking to a triage nurse, or make an appointment to see your doctor again. (But make sure to call and discuss you concern with the Triage Nurse FIRST - BEFORE you set up another appointment to see the Doctor).
PS. I do not know what antibiotic you are on for the bladder infection - but I have had several bladder infections and Cipro, (sp?), worked well for me. Best of luck little sister.

When I had really bad cramps (before I had my daughter) I mean REALLY bad my mom gave me liquid Motrin. It was easier for my stomach to break down and it worked faster than the pills. Try not to get on pain killers unless you really have to. I mean you feel like your about to die kinda pain. They are addictive and cause constipation when taken long term. heating pads and light stretching helps too. As far as the badder infection take the pills until they are done, crank down more water cranberry juice ( but more water). hope you feel better.

well if you do all you've mentioned, and you are having pain, it is likely due to spasms, I'd call the doctor and ask for a pain reliever.
