You have to know someone who works for the airline. A limited number of guest or buddy passes are allotted to employees of a given airline each year.

Be aware that buddy passes are not easily given out. The employee is entirely responsible for the buddy's conduct and if it's bad enough, the employee can get fired or reprimanded.

Remember too that they're for STANDBY travel, which means, no seat, no go & no complaining. The fees also can add up to more than a normally priced ticket. A girlfriend got stuck at an airport once for days and ended up paying a heafty priced ticket to get out. Sure, the flight might be half empty when you check on it but what if there's a cancellation on another airline and they take the passengers? You're out of luck!

If you do get one, please be really careful of the dress code and your conduct at every stage of the trip. Perhaps double check with a travel agent first. Tell them you have a buddy pass and challenge them to do the same price or better. Then you can wear shorts and get drunk and not get anyone fired!

Good luck!
