I know it's a sin to cuss but is it a sin to watch shows with cussing in it? As long as I don't do that sin would taht be ok? I was watching a video but it had cussing in it so I turned it off. Do you think it would be acceptable to watch these shows?

I once had a preacher tell me that if I first thought it was wrong then started questioning it, then chances are very good that it is wrong, and the devil has tried to tempt you into watching it, like in the garden he did with eve, she knew it was wrong then he said but, and she said well what if, and then she sinned. Let me run this also for you, the Bible says you cant serve 2 masters, you can only serve one, God or satan, so if what you are watching or listening to doesn't Glorify God then who does it promote and what spirit is it of. We are to shun stay away from all appearances of evil....

Maybe not a sin to watch or listen to cussing, but perhaps an occasion for sin if you find that you are remembering too much of the bad stuff you see, and if you are worried that listening to the language will rub off on you and be a bad influence.

Cursing others and taking God's name in vain are sins, but "cussing" is more like a vice - and just plain vulgar. Either way, we should try to eradicate both in the Christian life.

There was a priest who used to say to me "if you put rotten stuff in, rotten stuff comes out." We are not as immune as we think to bad speech and bad images.

"Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things." (Phil 4:8)

Offending people is a sin, using specific words isn't. Vulgar language is offensive to many people, exactly what language is offensive differs on the person.

Being around sin can often encourage people to sin.

Of course it is impossible to help sinners if you don't hang around them. There is also that little problem with everyone being a sinner.

You need to be careful what sinners you hang around so that you do not end up being encouraged to sin.

You need to pray on when and where and who you should hang out with. That includes what you watch and listen to.

I like Death Cab for Cutie and I am sure they are not on any Christians recommended listening list.

It depends on what your heart is telling you and the conviction of the Holy Spirit. I sometimes watch movies with some cursing as now it is almost immpossible to find one without. If it grieves my spirit enough where I feel the need to turn it off then I do. Obviously the spirit lives in you and you felt something or you would not have turned it off. Be sensetive and allow yourself to be led by the spirit. : D

as a christian, the LORD says we are to be holy, for He is holy. that means, you change everything about your life & how you relate to the world...
- the way you talk (no cussing, or provacative language)
- the places you go (so as not to make another stumble, to avoid sin & temptation)
- the way you dress ... should be holy as unto the LORD ... not like the world
- the things you associate yourself with ... including people... friends. you will become like the those you hang around. you are to witness to them, but if they chose not to chose God, you leave them & find others to witness to.

something to think about ....
by partaking of things, you are in esscence agreeing w/ it.

if you are around cussing or any other type of sin, it SHOULD offend your spirit. you should become very uncomfortable.
we are to live holy if we are born again, b/c we are not our own any longer... we are bought w/ a price ... the blood of Jesus.

a sure fire way to know if you are having trouble deciding ... would Jesus partake of it???

Psalms 101:3 I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me.

If you claim to be religious but don’t control your tongue, you are fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless. Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you. James 1:26-27

Thankfully for Twist - as a Christian we are no longer under the law of the Old Testament, but I believe the verse for you is "spare the rod, spoil the child" (ABRIDGED) Proverbs 13:24

When the Bible talks about cursing, it is clearly not about cuss words, but verbally assaulting someone.

Quench not the Spirit. If it bothers you then it bothers the Holy Spirit. Remember that darkness is not of this world and we who walk in light abide in Jesus who is the light of the world its a personal thing my friend often is...

"a sin"? it's hard to say. unwise? for sure. your spirit is like a farmer's filed: whatever seeds fall into the holes germinate unless killed soon after they sprout, and weeds are hard to pull as they mature. the more bad influences you expose yourself to, the worse it gets and the easier it is/more tempting it is to sin.
