It depends on how wide your lens is, what aperture you have it set to...Lots of small variables. Try it out and experiment.

Depends on focal length. A wide angle lense can capture a VERY wide area, from a very short distance.
With a telephoto, you may have to stand many yards away.
Regarding your set up, you could stand inches from the camera and you feet would be visible, if the camera was pointed straight and level. Of course, if the camera was aimed slightly up, whatever part of the body it was aimed at would be immediately visible.
In any case, if the camera were placed directly on the grass, a few blades may be in front of the lens and obscure objects farther away. I would recommend setting the camera on top of something. If not a tripod, then a box, or a pile of books. Perhaps you can even set it up on top of a camera bag.

Mimimum focusing distance is different for each type of camera and lens. For instance I can do what is called the scheimpflug technique on my view camera and have everything sharp from a couple inches away to infinity, but not all cameras can do this.
You can find out the exact answer for your camera by looking up the term " minimum focusing distance" in your cameras manual. If you don't have the manual anymore try the manufactuers online site.

It depends on a lot of things. Try it out and see. Just don't put it on wet grass.

for a more closer look, 3 meters is already good, but if you want really a distant shot and still be visible in your pictures, try ten meters..
