i will go to beijing for a seminar end of this month. During my short visit i still want to visit some places of interest there. Since i cannot understand nor speak the language i am thinking of parttimer guide. I need recommendation regarding places of interest to visit, mostly my free time is after 5 pm. And how to find parttimer guide there?

....it starts to get dark in beijing around six that time of year...the sun rises earlier here compared to say my home city ( Toronto - which is roughly at the same latitude) but it sets earlier...if you have just one day off you could visit the forbidden city, temple of heaven and perhaps another site...but these places are closed after six i believe...for nightlife stuff you could check out some acrobats, peking opera , walk around the markets ( wangfuxing, silk market, pearl market, etc....) ....you won't need a guide - just a map!!!...subways are easy to use and very convenient...taxis are cheap but the drivers usually don't speak english so prepare directions with the help of a chinese ...many people speak english here so don't worry...
