I don't mean people who simply disagree with Mormons. By "anti-Mormon" I mean bigots who try to tear down and insult Mormonism.

The people who robbed, raped and murdered the Mormons before they went to Utah called themselves Christians. It was the basis for Brigham Young's dark joke when he heard the US Army was on the way to, according to the commander, "Give Young a fair trial and hang him."

Young: "We enjoyed a lot of Christian charity back in the States. Now they're on the way to show us some more."

I have to agree with Oregon Flower. I'm anti-Mormonism. I'm not being unchristian, to say that I don't think your churches doctrine is biblical. I'm not being unchristian to want to help the LDS people accept the Jesus of the Bible. I'm not against the people, the LDS are a precious people, and they are worth the fight. Yes, I will debate with you, that is only because I am VERY concerned about you. I don't want to see you end up in a place that I would not wish on my worst enemy.

Having said all that, I don't agree with these people who stand in front of the Salt Lake temple waving the LDS garments around, dragging the Book of Mormon on the ground, holding signs, and saying awful things to the people.

Nobody should ridicule someone else's beliefs. Some people do take exception to Mormons calling themselves Christians because the Mormon version of Christianity is not really the same as that in the New Testament. That statement is not an attempt to "tear down and insult Mormonism"; it's a simple statement of fact which can be verified by reading the New Testament alongside the Book of Mormon. Mormons have the right to believe whatever they want, as I do.

I don't think it's in line with the tolerance preached by Christ to say some of the things said by people against Mormonism. It's like the South Park episode about the Mormons. One could think that they're theologically a joke, but most Mormons that I've ever met have been really nice people, and we shouldn't focus on their religion.

People who "tear down" other people or groups are not really acting in a Christian manner although they may believe their actions are justified. Religion has and always will be the basis for bigotry. Look at the history of the world: wars, executions, genocide, and, closer to home, families divided in the name of religion.
People who are Anti-Mormon have had a bad experience or are angry with the church and believe they need to "save" others from similar experiences.
When we can learn to genuinely accept and love people for who they are, then we are exhibiting Christian behavior.

Clearly Roman Catholics and the Orthodox are Christians. I have to say in response to your question, that Roman Catholics are often quite arrogant when it comes to both the Orthodox (I cannot understand why, since they themselves are an offshoot of the Orthodox), and Protestants in general. While both the Orthodox and Roman Catholics claim to be the one true church etc, there seems no point in trying to vilify all the others. As for the Protestant movement, the Roman Catholic church has altered many things since the time of Luther and agreed openly that he was, in part, correct. There was some justification for the breaking away from the main church at that time, and Roman Catholics can hardly deny the fact. Other than ritual, there are more similarities between Roman Catholic, Orthodox, Presbyterian and say Methodist than there are differences, a pedantic theologian may disagree but surely for the common man this is true.

They surely don't represent Christ in a very good way. When people stand up in front of God and everyone and lie about what we believe, or belittle it, or tear it down in anyway, and then say they are doing this out of "love" or whatever, it just says to me, "If this is what it means to be a 'Christian' instead of a Mormon, then I'll stay Mormon, thank you very much".

Very UN-Christlike to bad mouth another's religion whether you believe it or not. You don't hear Mormons preaching against other religions from their pulpit. A born again church down the road from me has "anti-Mormon" classes during the week nights. What is that all about?

I am against the church not the people persay, I do not hate the people personally, I have tried to simmer down some and not post question as of late...I had just posted three question and then stopped that as well...but I use to be really active, and now I just answer a question at random, and not twenty to thirty questions like I use to.

Remember that in the fight, it was the Mormons who threw the first punch. Look at the things that are said in the version of the "first vision" that is touted these days. What does that look like if it isn't the first punch? It is hypocritical in that Smith didn't obey that command not to join a church. He joined one of the churches that God commanded him not to.
