If they smell bad then your puppy probably has an infection, you should take him to the vet to rule out infection but if this is just normal doggy ear smell, there is really nothing you can do about it except clean them once a week. Never put sprays or perfumes in your dog's ears.

A healthy puppy shouldn't have smelly ears.If they smell bad, there is probably a bacterial or yeast infection. You really should take the puppy to the vet,but if you can't or won't,then clean the ears with a little hydrogen peroxide, put about two teaspoonsful into each ear,and massage ( do this outside, because the puppy will shake it's head and get gunk everywhere) Then wipe the ears with gauze or cotton balls.Repeat daily. If there is no improvemet, you need a vet.

If the wax is coming out of the ear and it's a real dark yellow color and thick it's an ear infection. Ear infections if not treated can scar the ears tissue and might cause slight hearing loss.

It could also be ear mites but I don't know much about those so I won't attempt to tell you anything about those.

If it's not that take a washrag and get it wet. Ring it out real good and then be real easy and clean out the outer part of the ear and then clean all the parts of the inside fleshy part of the ear you can see. Don't go real deep in the ear. Clean only the parts you can see.

What breed is your dog? I ask because breeds that have ears hanging down as opposed to standing up, often have ear infections. But dogs ears should not have a "bad odour" emitting from them - if they do, it usually means that there is a problem. The problem can be anything from mites to an ear infection. You should consult a Vet to determine if there is a problem and if there isn't he can show you how to safely clean your dogs ears ... which should be done on a regular basis - like nail clipping.

First, ear mites are highly contagious to cats and dogs, but they are NOT contagious to humans. I don't think your dog has mites because it only takes a few ear mites to cause really intense itching - with your dog scratching and shaking his head violently. His ear flaps would be red, crusty and scabbed. In the canals, he'd have a dry, dark brown, waxy discharge that looks kind of like coffee grouns and has a bad odor due to the secondary infection. He's pobably just got wax in his ears. You can clean them - gently - with a cotton ball using either a bit of warm water or a commercial ear cleaner. If you notice his ears getting worse or him showing any of the symptoms, he needs to get to the vet as soon as possible.

If its ears are really smelly you may have to take it to the vet to get checked for an ear infection.

Assuming there is no infection, you will need to clean its ears periodically. You can get ear cleaning solution at a pet supply store or from your vet. How often you have to clean depends on how dirty your dog gets, how often it goes to dog parks or plays with other dogs, etc.

First of all take the puppy to the vet. They shouldn't smell that bad and he/she could have an infection.
