There's never a need for stockings, it's all about your own comfort level. I, personally, will be wearing tights. Yes, I know that not having proper stockings means that wearing a garter for the garter toss is stupid, but it's not like garters are necessary underwear anymore, even if wearing "proper" stockings. I'm going to be getting married in a church, so I wouldn't want to be going bare-legged. With an ankle-length dress I would end up showing some leg.

I wore mine on my right leg, but I think that's only because I'm right handed, and that's the hand I used to pull it up. I don't think there's a specific leg, as long as (like another answer suggested) the groom knows where it's at if you're going to do the garter toss at the reception.

The only thing I'm aware of that there is a specific side for is the rings and the sixpence for her shoe- those are both on the left.

Honestly, it really doesn't matter which leg you decide to put the garter on. The only time I suggest which leg, is if the bride has a tatoo or a marking that she feels uncomfortable with or doesn't want it to be seen in pictures, and I suggest to her to wear the garter on the opposite leg. It is totally up to you.

It doesn't matter as long as the groom knows which one for he garter toss. Traditionally brides wore one on each leg, one to throw and one to keep!

( I completely forgot mine on my wedding day, and I had 2!)

I don't think there is a specific leg, the groom is the only one to see it on her leg anyways.

I think it is the right leg but I am sure you could do whatever you wanted to do.

I'm left handed, so I guess that's why I wore them on my left leg.
I don't think it matters
