What's a good tip for taking a self portrait in a field, when you don't have a tripod?

Um.. thats a tough one. Get a tripod, or have a really long arm.

I suggest just getting a tripod. Tripods I find are pretty much essential. You can get some ok onces for cheap at XScargo.

Well, I would take something to stand it on. If you want a really good pic the camera cannot move. Or set the self-timer. Make sure the lighting is right. What type of camera do you have?With Digital, what time of day will the pic be taken? If its during the day, change the 'White Balance" to "daylight." And for gee whiz, don't look directly at camera. I hope that helps.

I can't take a picture without a tripod my hands shake too much.

Tripods are not that expensive...buy one and use it.

OR

Get a friend to take the picture for you.

Take a jacket with you, roll it up and put your camera on it. You can even face it up a little. Just meke sure none of the jacket is blocking the lens.

You can try setting the camera on another object, like a tree or a chair, get creative! maybe a ladder etc. Just make sure it is sturdy and your camera doesn't fall off.

Set it down somewhere, make sure it's pointed where you want it, set the timer and go for it.
