even if they at least call

I would say the call is better than a card. You get to hear their voice and you talk to them, you get to thank them for calling and remembering your birthday.

Its not a big deal. After a certain age, like 21, people really dont give out birthday cards unless its a milestone birth year, like 40, 50, 60 etc. If they call you should be happy at least they remembered.

Do they send cards to other folks in the family? My mother in law consistently "forgets" my birthday, but not any of the other members of the family. That, I think is wrong. If they don't send or give cards to other members of the family, then no. The other half of that question is, do you send them one? If so, they sort of "owe" you at least that much attention.

I don't really care too much. It is nice for like 2 seconds if I do get one, but then it's like ok where do I put it. I know some people save all cards and notes and all that, but I just don't have them room to have a mountain of notes, cards, etc. I do keep what is most important, like what my kids do and if my mom and dad send something, but otherwise I really don't care if I get a card from anyone else.

Not sending a birthday card is saving a tree. A phone call is better - it is more personal. Why waste $4.99 on some insincere, sentimental Hallmark drivel?

People sometimes have busy and troubled lives. Just because this year's birthday card collection is one short doesn't mean you did something wrong or you are unloved. As you grow older be prepared to expect less and less .

well lets just say it was my husbands birthday this weekend and GUESS what none of the tight fisted old gits from his side of the family sent him one BUT woe betide if it even looks like we are gonna get one late to them, even had his stuck up daughter CALL him to remind him about a family members birthday, yet she does not have the courtesy to even call him on his day................so YES I think it does matter, even more so when the pitch a pissey fit if he [read ME here] does not send them one.............

Nope, 'cause I get one, from the same Aunt every year. tThey do not call, either. Nor do I call them. Fine, doesn't bother me, at all. Some exchange greetings at Xmas, some don't, and that is fine by me, too.
