Pascal's Wager -- You know that this gets asked so often it is part of our drinking game
- It assumes there is no downside. There is. You spend your life (the only one you do have) following a lie. That is a HUGE downside.
- How would you know which God to pick? The evidence is the same for Anubis, so what happens to you when you are wrong and you can't pass the questions from the Book of the Dead or your heart weighs heaver than a feather. There are thousands of others with the same evidence. Just picking one randomly doesn't do much for your odds.
- How could you hope to fool a god by saying you believe when you don't?

What if the god that really exists sends all good people to heaven and all bad people to hell except people who pretended to know for a fact another god existed? then all good atheists are going to heaven but YOU ARE GOING STRAIGHT TO HELL. Why not repend when you still have time? Why risk eternity in hell?
And how can you worship a sadistic god that tortures good people - most of the people who ever lived - for all eternity?
Pascal's wager:
"If god exists, it's infinitely better to believe, since you get heaven instead of hell for eternity. If he doesn't, it doesn't matter since you're dead anyway. So overall it's better to believe"
This is, of course, false.
Some of the problems with the argument:
* The implied assumption that god may exist (with a 50% probability, no less!)
* The assumption that there is an afterlife with a heaven and hell
* The assumption that the god cares about belief in him/her above all else
* The assumption that if you believe in a god, it will definitely be the same god that actually exists.
* The assumption that you lose nothing if it's false. You have lost a great deal, from time praying to a nonexistent entity (some people pray several hours a day!!!) to morality (your god may ask you to hurt other people) and much more besides.
* The assumption that people can believe in something simply because it benefits them. Would you believe goblins exist for twenty bucks? Why not?
* The assumption that any god won't see through the "believing just to get into heaven" ploy.

I am a Catholic Christian but I don't think Pascal's Wager is the best way to convince atheists to believe in God.
People come to faith by God's grace. Logical thinking usually does not come into the picture. That was the case with me. Let us just pray for their conversion.

I was promised a pink unicorn would great me when I died if I was good shouldn't I model my life around this claim .or would I do better living a good rational and reasonable life for good cause like the love of life .
Or if you empty out your bank account with a check signed to Mr. pascal who is waiting around the corner no make it cash and I'll give it to him and you won't be gunned down . sound like extortion to you . maybe you will win the lottery but are you going to empty out your account without evidence .
when comes to real terms not many will go there hence it is just vain lip service to a stupid idea.

No one can choose to believe just because it it convenient. Try this out - for a whole day - be an atheist - ie do not believe in a god at all. Do not just pretend not to beileve - just do not believe.

I HATE PASCAL'S WAGER! I'm a Christian and I consider questions like this to be slimy as slimy gets. Pretending to believe "just in case" is morally far worse than honestly refusing to believe.
