I know of an organization that build a home for a couple. It was small but pretty to see from the outside.

These people that built the home had a HUGE banner over the house stating how wonderful this organization was and how they were helping the community. In addition there were bule balloons and trays of food.

My question is if you do a good deed for someone isnt it supposed to be done in secret and not annoucing it in the public square see Matthew 6:1-6?

Also the same organization basically hung up on a couple trying to get housing because they felt 31,000 a year combined income was too much money to make.

What is your take on this?

if someone gave me a house for free, they could put billboards in the front yard as far as i'm concerned. i'd want everyone to know what a wonderful group of people they are and how everyone should support them...

but that's me and my gratitude...

as for the couple who couldn't get a free house cuz they made too much money...imagine the level of poverty for those people who actually do qualify...

you don't know the details, so don't hate on an organization that is at least trying to do something for others. if you feel they should hold to biblical principles, then join their board of directors and share your ideology.

stop hatin' unless you're doing something better...

There is a difference between an organization and an individual doing good. An organization usually gets by on donations...I think it is fair for them to get noticed...the more people give, the more they can help. There are people out there who are trying to live on a lot less than $31,000 a year.

Well if that was a Christian organization then I am extremely disappointed. Because that's not how Christianity works. You are supposed to help those in need, Even if they make a combined income of $31,000 a year.

I feel that we do things for People "When God Tells Us To.".....Therefore, we should NEVER Blow our own Horn! If we are doing this, I'm afraid We Just Gave up Our Heavenly reward. Sometimes, It is sad to say, that if we aren't careful....We can get so Heavenly minded, we are NO EARTHLY GOOD. When we take things into our own hands.....I believe this stinks in GOD'S Nostrils. The people who denied that family of help, Have a Pay-Day coming. Matthew 6: I-4 Says It all.

Unless the Banner and the Food was in celebration of the completion of the deed, I think those type of people mainly want to gloat or want acknowledgment. Those that wish to do it out the goodness of their own hearts will be humble about it without expecting anything in return....

Yeah, this happens a lot. Many charities and organizations just "do good" for the attention, and when the media leaves, they're gone too.

A good deed should be kept private not only because your reward will be stored up in heaven, but by doing so you offer a degree of dignity to those whom you have the good fortune of helping.

If someone built me a new house, I don't care what any book says, I'm going to tell everyone how wonderful I think they are and how grateful I am.
