There isn't a page in the bible that i have read that hasn't made me feel as if the authors were playing a hideous joke on all of humanity. It is all so simplistic, so black and white. The facts that we've come to know about the world in this enlightened age have been turned on their ear... even some of the knowledge that one would expect the authors themselves to know is lampooned (that light requires a source for instance). Pages upon pages are wasted on minutia where the real meat of most of these stories is glossed over in mere words.

How can anyone really take this stuff seriously? Am I being punked by the world?!

Their parents taught them that every word was god- inspired truth, so of course they believe it. Its a little thing called "brainwashing". And I think its good that you read the bible, so you actually knew what you were rejecting as an atheist. (If you are one.) Have you been to the Skeptics Annotated Bible website? It talks about some of the more hilarious and horribly violent bits of the bible in the "highlights" sections.

If you don't believe in God, then why on earth would you read the Bible?

It's like a person in China reading the U.S. Constitution, and not understanding the electoral college.

The Bible is written by, about, and for the children of Abraham. There's not much in the Bible that a non-believer can believe.

The Bible was written by dozens of people, over the span of 3,000 years, I'm curious what you were expecting to find in the Bible, if you're not a believer in God and if you don't understand the history of the collection of books that is the Bible.

Godspeed.

I asked a question like this a while ago- Bible was written in a way that allows people to think whatever they want and interpret it how they want- That's why it makes no sense to a person who doesn't live in the world they create. Complete wit hfairies, talking snakes, world wide floods, walking on water, virgin bitrhs, talking donkeys, talking bushes, drinking urine and eeating one's own defication.

Cheiko- You learning 'everything you need to know' in kindergarten just explains so much about our world...

Yeah, I've never read a book that has so much non-sense from the very beginning to the end.

Then again I've never read any books written by Paris Hilton.

Uh-huh.

Creationists believe everything was created by an omnipotent being.

Atheists believe that the universe exploded into being and we all magically transformed from monkeys into humans.

Uh-huh.

You're right man. I go to church with my wife. I look around at all of the good, intelligent people, in her chuch and I wonder how the hell did these people fall for this b.s. It's amazing. Somebody is being punked. It might be you and I, or it might be that the dudes that wrote the bible are sitting somewhere right now laughing their asses off.

I have an IQ of 138 and have read the Bible extensively. Perhaps the caption in your avatar should read "CHIMP."
