You decide what you would like to have for your wedding, and then you set a budget. Then you attempt to stay within that budget. There is no set amount, because often people go to the extremes because it is "their special day"... which is fine, if you have that money.

But a very small, very cozy wedding and reception can be just a beautiful and memorable.

Good Luck

People spend to much money on weddings. Weddings and all the festivities that go with it, are all becoming to commerical. It's not the amount spent, or how much the dress cost, or how big the cake that should matter. It is the love between two people, and the hope that they share of a life filled with love through good times and bad that really matter.

I would not be able to tell you my hubby and I did not spend a penny. We did not want a wedding and our families did so they had to pay for everything. We wanted just to get marrieda nd that is it. They wanted to go the whole nine yards. We still enjoyed it though even more since we did not spend anything and we even got about $2000 in the dollar dance.

First of all, don't go crazy on the budget. You are doing this to celebrate your love, not impress your friends. Keep it simple, and spend the real money on things that will last...like the photographer and her ring. Who really needs embossed matchbooks? You need to decide on a budget...between her family and yours and what they can afford to help you out with. If you're funding your own wedding, which a lot of older couples are doing now, because they're making their own money and their folks are trying to save for retirement, then don't start your marriage out in debt. Best of luck.

ive known people to spend alot of money on one day and spend the next five years paying it back. the bad thing about that is the relastioship may not last to see the last bill from the ceremony paid off. so spend what you can afford. its nothing but a big party you and your spouse put on to have people enjoy a day that is meant just for the two of you...

I forget the exact price but it's tens of thousands of dollars, basically enough to pay for a good deal of college tuition. Weddings are big business and those in it liike to push how it is supposed to be the most important day of your life.

depends on peoples budget and the kind of ceremony they want. some people go big and elaborate while others choose just to get married in a court. it all depends on the people getting married.

right now though, supposedly the average wedding, at least in the area i'm from is around $28,000

Wedding--- $5,500-$7,000, see below for details
Reception--- $20-50 per guest, depending on a lot of things
Rings--- up to the man
Honeymoon--- up to both

***one factor that can mess up this figure: if you have to pay for some people's hotels, or if you have to buy the bridesmaids' and groomsmens' wardrobes. Usually they will pay for their own wardrobe though.

Bride-- 2,000 (dress, hair, lingerie, make-up, veil or hairpiece, shoes, etc.)
Groom--200
Photography--1,500 for a few hours worth of shots, can go up if you decide to get a videographer or more shots
Legal fees, pastor, pianist--500
Flowers and other decorations--500 (flowers, candles, aisle runner, boutinierres (spelling?) for about 15 family members and groomsmen)
Rehearsal dinner (if you have one)--400-900
Invites, programs, Thank-yous---400
Rings--up to the man
Reception--figure on about 20-50 per guest, depending on the fanciness
Honeymoon---up to both

Way more than they can afford, either savings for years or going into debt. Most spend more than 30K
