Well he did it a lot in the Bible.

But I've been a heretic for over 30 years and he hasn't done ****. Either he has become a wuss, had an anger management class, or it was just all made up in the first place.

We need to remember that sin is a constant in our lives while we are yet on this earth (Romans 3:10, 23). And as such, we not only have to deal with God's discipline for our disobedience, but we also have to deal with the natural consequences resulting from sin. If a believer steals something, God will forgive him and cleanse him from the sin of theft, restoring fellowship between Himself and the repentant thief. However, the societal consequences of theft can be severe, resulting in fines or even jail time. These are natural consequences of sin and must be endured. But God works even through those to increase our faith and glorify Himself.

Often we pursue a course in life that eventually causes us a lot of grief or regret. This is not God’s doing, this is a result of the choices we make. The nature of God is love. He tries to keep us from going the harmful way, but the choice is ours.

If you are a Christan, you might feel corrected from time to time by the Holy Spirit....but punished no,,,that is reserved for Judgment Day and there again if you are a Christian, you don't have to fear Judgment Day. Your sins are covered by the blood of Jesus....God won't see them.

The bible does say that the soul that is sinning will die.

Further, when God led his people through the wilderness they were kept in the wilderness for many years allowing many to die. Yet, he fed them MANNA.
He also kept Moses from crossing the Jordan because he struck the rock instead of touching it as he was told to do.
Joshua crossed in his place.

Punish no, chasten or correct, yes.

Job 5:17
"Blessed is the man whom God corrects; so do not despise the discipline of the Almighty.

There are consequences to sin in this life and in the life to come. The truth is God loves you. Yes, He is holy and pure, and sin is an offense to Him. But in spite of our sins He still loves us. Just as parents still love their children even if they disobey, so God loves us even if we sin.

How do I know God loves us? I know it for one reason: because God sent His only Son into the world to die for our sins. The Bible says, "This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us" (1 John 3:16). Would Christ have died for you if He didn't love you and want you to be with Him in Heaven forever? Of course not. But He did—and today you can come to know His love by asking Him to come into your life.

God does chastise His followers when we err.

King David lusted after Bathesheba, had her husband killed in battle so that he could marry her. As a result, God took the life of their child. This certainly seems like punishment to me.

He does let us suffer the consequences for our sins. But He is merciful and just, He doesn't burn your house because you forgot to say grace over breakfast.

He can. Hell isn't punishment, but consequence. after all, Hell isn't forever. the Lake is.

most of the times if He punishes you during life it's to send a message. some people see "not receiving favour" as punishment, though it's really nothing more than you asking God for things, Him saying "ahem?" and you going "what?!".

usually, He lets you punish yourself by consequence or your own emotions (you make a bad decision, you know it, it'll affect you some way or another).

I think it is more about Karma, or what goes around comes around.

If you lead a bad life, it is bound to catch up with you sooner or later.
It is easy to blame it on God, but it is more likely that you would be harvesting the fruit of your ill advised labors or past actions.
