I don't know if Drill Instructors will strike you or break bones etc., but I know that they are not supposed to. Everything has to be verbal, they can't touch you.
If recruits are being physically harmed, then I'm sorry to say the DI is doing something wrong despite the fact that some people think the recruits should be able to handle it.
In a war situation if someone is breaking your arm and beating you, you're free to beat them with the ugly stick. Good luck laying a finger on your DI without getting punished.

First off, they are drill instructors (not drill Sgts. thats an army thing); DI's don't abuse recruits. The reason they yell at most recruits is to get them on edge and to see how they perform in situations that make them nervous. Getting IT'd is not abuse, it sucks (at the very beginning) but the recruit should realize that s/he either disobeyed an order or did something that was not correct. Remember Marines are trained for War, as you can plainly see no enemy is ever as nice as a DI.

first of all. their is no drill sgt's in the Marine Corps. second only recruits train in San Diego.
and if there was abuse taken place. i a sure you it was a isolated incident. the training there is hard. it could be a recruit crying wolf. missing his mommy.

It used to be a lot worse. The drill instructors used to beat the crap out of you. Now you get an elbow or a shoulder now and then, or tripped up. It's a lot easier, but it still isn't easy.
You have to remember, the job of the Marines is to kill things and blow sh---t up.

I don't know if you're speaking of a specific event or just in general because I'm not from the area. Whatever they do though, they do to toughen them up, not just because they like being mean. Most of the recruits love that crap anyway. If they think they're too tough on them, they're probably in the wrong Field.

First of all they are DRILL INSTRUCTORS, SECOND, they are RECRUITS, not Marines...please do not make a statement such as the one you made just because of the actions of one (1) Marine.Unless you have been through Marine Corps Boot Camp I urge you to be quiet on this subject

We are not sensitive! We are realists that are very aware of what all Branches of the Armed Forces do.
We have zero compassion for whining.
Some have been in combat, some have not. We all did our jobs and survived to annoy people here with Hard Core answers.

If your a marine, you can take it.
If your can't take, go home to your mommy.
Pretty much their opinion in a nutshell. They don't want a bunch of marines that acted like those British solders when they were captured.
What an embarrassment to their country.

Drill sargeants are preparing men for combat. the abuse the recruits from drill instructors helps to prepare them for the abuse they will get from the enemy.
