I have noticed that most of the people that come in here say that they want a tattoo in Sanskrit usually say "sanscript" or "sandscript". Does it seem odd to anybody else that these people want a tattoo in a language that they don't even really know the name of?

Don't EVEN get me started (you knew I'd answer this).

This whole business is a multi-layered case of people "Not knowing what they don't know" (i.e. you're not even aware of the fact that there is something you don't know). But it's more like not knowing what they don't know they don't know they don't know....so many layers of removal from anything meaningful at all. The result is just a shape on your body that could be anything you want to imagine it to be. It's not even possible to explain to people why what they are trying to do is pointless, unless they are willing to sit down and listen/read for more than 5 seconds.

Oh, here we go again! Mine is in Sanskrit (as my avatar shows.) I do not speak/cannot read Sanskrit. Yet the origin and "underlying meaning" behind it means something to me. That inner peace and tranquility. Plus, it was something completely different. On top of my other reasons, I generally liked the look of the text, which tied in to the idea I had for my tattoo (to me anyways!) It's a visual reason, but also because of that mystical feel I get when I see Sanskrit. You might not understand and think I am yet another stupid Westerner, but I have my reasons and my tattoo means A LOT to me. It's like a child to me! lol

totally ridiculous!
i saw a guy today with an arm full of Sanskrit and when I asked him what it meant (he had a hard time understanding me as he had a think Spanish accent) and he told me that he put in a phrase that he thought was cool and translated it online. HIS WHOLE ARM! Filled with something that he doesn't even know is correct.
What a shame.

No people are stupid. Vocabulary, pronunciation and spelling are not the strong suits of Americans.
