Anyone who gets this sort of information SHOULD ABSOLUTELY get a second opinion. Your physician would not only expect it, but if he/she is competent, will tell you whom to see. If oyur physician resists, then you should DEFINITELY get another opinion.

Cysts are much more common than cancer and there is the possibility of getting a biopsy (painful, but may be preferable to waiting).

If it is cancer, it is generally best to get it out sooner rather than later. If it is a cyst, you could use the peace of mind by finding out for certain.

I would ask for a needle biopsy and an ultrasound. Ultrasounds show many breast cancers that a mammogram won't.

The doctor thought I had a mammary gland infection because it was painful and he had never had a patient that experienced pain with cancer before.

In the four months or so, from the time I first went to the doctor until we removed the lump and it was diagnosed as cancer, the unusually aggressive breast cancer I had progressed to stage three cancer.

You most likely do not have cancer. I don't mean to scare you. 95% of breast lumps are benign cysts. But find that out for sure now-not six months from now.

I would be insisting on a fine needle biopsy as a minimum or an ultrasound guided core biopsy. This will confirm if you are dealing with a benign cyst or malignant tumour. If malignant, 6 months is too long to wait!
