The Bible was written by human beings. It is read by human beings. If it wasn't open to interpretation then everyone who read it would agree what it meant, but they can't, often so much that violence ensues.

So isn't every interpretation of the bible just the projection of the individual reader? If not, why not? (You'll have to persuade us that Christians all agree on quite a lot of it.)

Thanks to all.

Hermeneutics is quite complicated, but there are principles that can be used to get at important meanings. Many of those not acquainted with the study of interpretation itself are likely to rely more on their received traditions (completely unaware). This goes for everyone and every text, not just Christians and the Bible.

yes!...and no- i mean, it would be better if that were true- then people might have a chance to actually gain some real wisdom

but- in reality- most people are programmed to interpret these writings according to the group of whom they belong-
no real pure interpretation there

but i do agree- perspective is everything, and changes everything. we all think we have the right one- very
egotistical!
even me-i'll humbly admit... crazy! but i also hold the possiblity that i could be completely wrong- or somewhat right, and somewhat wrong...or maybe there is no "right" and "wrong"

All interpretations are NOT equal. Only the Holy Spirit can guide in the proper interpretation of scripture.

That's why I don't trust mere human beings to interpret the Bible.

I trust True Christians.
