My dog had a trail of string hanging from his butt after he pooped & he tried to bite it but he can't get it, and we tried to pull it lightly, but he moaned. My father insists it's string. I didn't really get a good look at it, but he hasn't eaten anything except food since he was a puppy. I was thinking maybe worms? How do I tell what it is, and more importantly, how do I get it out? We cut the larger half off, but there's still some left that he can't poop out. Please help my dog!

It is probably caught up on something internally since he moans when you tried to remove it. You should take him to the vet ASAP.
Another thought is it could be worms. They can look like a string.

Yea 900 seems slightly intense for an xray. I have been given one for 2 hundred a pair months in the past. How long has it been there? If this is purely been considering the fact that she final pooped i could leave it and spot if she poops it out the subsequent time. do no longer pull on it nevertheless, because of the fact it ought to finally end up tugging on a number of her organs if this is wrapped around something. If she's performing high quality, purely wait and spot if it comes out on this is own. If she has long gone to the bathing room and it nevertheless hasn't come out, touch yet another vet to get her in for an xray.

When my dog plays with stuffed toys, he occasionally will ingest string from the toy. If it looks thin, or is colored, it is probably string, or maybe even a hair! When this happens to my dog, I pull it, but he soes not moan, so it may be more serious in your dogs case. Take your dog to the vet.

Get the pup to the vet immediatlely. Hopefully they can get it out easily ;but, I saw one dog that needed extensive surgery as the string was so long and was all tangled in the intestine. If the surgery wasn't done the dog would have died.

You said you cut the larger half, you should have examined it thoroughly what it is. Wait until the next poop. Feed him heavily and the next moment, see if that alien will come out along with the poop into this cruel world!

Get your puppy wormers and dose him then wait twelve days and worm again. Use a good wormer such as drontal or panacur. No its not string its worms which will cause your dog to lose weight and become lethargic...

Could it be grass?? I went thru this one yesterday.. Dog came in with something hanging out her butt.. It was grass.. I grabbed a piece of toilet paper and slooooooowly pulled it right outta there.. Man was she happy!
Before you pull it out, you should examine it to find out exactly what it is.. When you can recognize it, it will give you a good idea how long it might be.. If you can't recognize it then you should maybe either wait a bit to see how things come out.. Or go to the vet if it seems to be a problem.

If he sounded like he was in pain when you tried to pull on it, take him to the vet. It could be tangled in his digestive system. If you can't get ahold of a vet tonight, just leave it alone until tomorrow. You might want to have your dog skip breakfast in case food in his system aggravates the situation.
