In so far as it brings hope and comfort to millions, yes and yes

The way it has been presented by some people , you would not imagine it was good news now or ever had been....However, when I met some Christians who were doing evangelism not just because they had been told to do it, but were sharing the real hope and healing they personally had found through a living relationship with Jesus Christ....I thought I would try asking Him to be in charge of my life, too - and can assure you that the gospel is indeed very good news for anyone who will simply receive the wonderful Person it represents!

If you are really wanting to know more about Christian faith, try going to an Alpha course, which many churches start about this time of year, and which is free and non-pressurising. God bless you in your search, don't leave it too late!

I think it depends on how you approach the gospels.

A lot of the text in the gospels was written and/or edited quite a bit after jesus' death, but, if you weedle it down to the stuff that jesus most likely DID say, and forget about the stuff his followers (many of whom had their own agendas) probably added after the fact, yes, I would have to say the gospels ARE good news.

Yes, Jesus died on the cross, one of the more terrible ways one can die, and yet Jesus died with nothing but love and forgiveness in his mind. Jesus seemed to have found a way to cultivate unlimited compassion for his fellow human beings, even when they were mocking and torturing him. That's good news, because he said we could all find a way to achieve this overflowing of love. The kingdom of heaven is within, he tells us, and all of us are sons and daughters of God. We are all One, and equally capable of achieving unity with all. That's great news, I think.

As for the relevance issue, I think from what I have said that it is clear the gospels are relevant. Anything that helps us to escape hate, greed, ill-will, and selfishness is helpful, and the gospels can help us do that. Of course, information is scant in the gospels, after we remove the agendas, myth-making, and alterior motives of his disciples and so on, but, every little helps. I think the gospels require lots of study, especially of secondary texts on the historicity of the gospels and Jesus. Uncovering the historical aspect of Jesus is a fruitful endevour I think, and makes Jesus' message so much more down-to-earth, and doable, and so a lot more relevant.

Eph.2:7; 3:21; The world with Jesus is without end. John 3:16; 17:3; 2Pet.3:13; Rev.21:1-5; All is made as new as before Eden, as promised Isa.65:17; 66:1,22,23; all possible is saved, any not saved has self to blame.

The gospel is good news and is relevant for us today according to our need for salvation as a fallen people....

Mt 11:28-30 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

And if you feel like you do not need him or his salvation as the Pharisees did....

Mt 9:11-13 When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and ‘sinners’?” On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”

It was the best news for mankind ever, and sadly most people mock it, with no understanding of the how God loves us, and the price that was paid.

God said, "I am the same, yesterday, today and forever".

Have you ever heard the term, "a solution in search of a problem"? That's what the Christian New Testament is. A solution to a problem (salvation) that didn't exist.
