Just wondering what people think. My opinion yes and no. Whittier is HOTTER in comparison to gateway cities like Norwalk or Downey and parts of the city sit in the 626 area code. Im so confused.

Yes. It is part of the SG Valley. Area code doesn't dictate region all the time.
For example, most people in L.A. think a 310 area code is limited only to the Westside (Beverly Hills, Bel-Air, Malibu, Pacific Palisades, Brentwood, etc) and that it is a "rich" area code when in fact it includes poorer districts in completely different regions like Compton in South Los Angeles.

No, it's not. Area code doesn't respect geographical boundaries. That's why you will find parts of Orange County with 562 area code, for example (like La Habra).

Whittier is SOUTH of the Puente Hills. That makes it NOT in the SGV. However, it is further inland than the other gateway cities, and very close to the SGV, so it gets some more heat than the gateway cities. It's not part of the SGV, and actually has a lot of nice neighborhoods, especially near Whittier College.
