I agree highly with the jokker. I am an assistant photographer for a local Photography Studio. If you want to get into photography, research the PPA (Professional Photographers Association) - the Instructors there are Professional Photographers. You may want to get yourself a real good DSLR (Digital Standard Lens Reflex) Camera. You can adjust the f-stop, and shutter speed to capture the events in almost total darkness.

Buy a camera and start taking pictures of small local bands. Look at pics in music magazines and get feed back from anyone. Then, you will run into problems like dark small spaces or too many people to fit in the frame. Then, you'll figure out how to solve them and little by little you'll become a great photographer.

You might contact each band and introduce yourself and explain what you would like to do and receive in exchange. Of course the band can get you special passes. However, I am sure the bands get a lot of offers and they get con artist that say that they are photographers and want free passes. Hmmmmmmm

Dont listen to the guy telling you to go take classes. Yes it will help, but not needed. You need a decent camera (ie., DSLR), and you need to have some idea on what you want to do.

I dont know if you are a photographer looking to shoot bands or if you are new to photography. If you are new to photography, check out the training guides on the canon and nikkon web sites, they will help get you started.

Next, you need to get involved with the music scene. If you want to get paid for your work you need to have something to show them so they can hire you.

The best way of doing this is practice. Take shots, look at magazines and try to figure out how to do it like the magazine. Get a trial version of photoshop or another photo editing program so you can add a 'professional' look to them.

Its going to take time and you need to devote energy to learning how to do it right if you actually want to get paid for this work.

first of all what genre of music do the bands you want to take pictures of play ? it depends because hardcore or any kind of energetic bands move very fast and it's hard to get a decent shot of them playing , and if it is a more mellowed out show with the band sitting still , any point and shoot digital camera will do . but going back to fast paced concerts , if you want an above average shot it will cost you money , i recommend a canon or nikon digital slr . my friend , who specializes in this kind of stuff, owns a canon rebel and it works very well . I also recommend getting to know your local music scene so you can practice and they will more than likely let you actually get closer to get better pictures . hope i helped out at least a little .
