You are liable to see a repeat of what hapened in Vietnam. When the U.S. finally pulls out of Iraq, the country collapses.

Iraq has been a sovereign country for what, 1.5 years? It takes a little longer than this for a country with that kind of history to be able to take care of itself. I am tired of everything that's going on over there too. But that doesn't mean I think we should give up. I'm a true American patriot, and quite frankly, in my opinion, giving up is not an option. Everyone say they just want our troops to be home with their families, I don't know if they realize it, but if our troops weren't in Iraq or Afghanistan, they would be stationed somewhere else in the world right now. It's all part of the package when you join the military, which I will say once more, is entirely voluntary.
Just because we've been in Iraq for 4 years doesn't mean it has had an effective government for that long. I do agree with a lot of people that the Iraqi Government needs to get their asses in gear and start doing something. But sometimes, the things this country is wanting from them is impossible when there are time frames and benchmarks attached. Besides, if our government was in it's first 5 years and the Dems and Reps had the state of mind they have right now. We'd be in a whole world of ****.

So what? How can you tell when a high ranking officer is lying? His lips move.
First off there are no Iraqis. There are three major groups, Sunni Arabs, Shia Arabs and Kurds.
They have their act together. Things are happening exactly as they want it. There's a low intensity civil war going on between the Shia and the Sunni. The Shias are rubbing their hands awaiting their chance to get revenge for hundreds of years of mistreatment of the Shiites by the Sunnis. It'll make the genocides of the former Yugoslavian wars look like nothing.
It can stay that way if we stay there on a long term basis.
If we leave, the civil war will become high intensity. The Shia have 3:1 population advantage. The Sunnis would lose. The other Sunni Arab states won't let that happen and will intervene to prevent that. That will cause the Iranians to intervene on the Shia side. This will cause a greater middle east war.
The Kurds really don't care if the Sunnis and Shiites kill each other they just want to be left alone and not have drakonian Sharia law imposed on them by the Shia. Logically the should be split off into a independent nation but Turkey and to a lesser degree the Iran and Syria won't allow it because they have large Kurdish minority populations which would want to be included in a Kurdish state. Turkey has invaded the Kurshish area of Iraq and will invade an independent Kurdish state.
My solution would be to create two independent states. A Kurdish/Sunni state and a Shiite state.

Gen. Betray-Us is a pawn of the admin. The Iraqis did not ask to be invaded. Their cities are in turmoil with electric and water operational only rarely during the day. And you talk like teir the "bad guys"!
If the "invaders" would get the hell out of their country and their business, things would work themselves out. Since you have proven by this question that you know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about reality over there let me xplain it to you very simply:
1.) Iraq did not deserve to be attacked for NO REASON!
2.) 80% of 9/11 attackers were from Saudi Arabia--why didn't Bush attack THEM?!
3.) The military is seen as, rightly so, invaders and all the "insurgents" are doing is trying to run off the invaders. Something, I hope, we all would do if WE were invded by outsiders on our soil.
4.) Iraqis ARE "doing their part". They are trying to stay alive and defend their country from an empire-building regime known as the USA.
Check the facts, Bubba, and free yourself from the programming!

I think realistically it will take another six to eight years for the government to have the minimal level of normalcy . . . I'm assuming the lack of running water, electric, hospitals, schools and infrastructure aren't helping . . . at some point we need to really discuss limits on American efforts . . . I'm hoping the expanded international support will help ease the burden . . . We are officially between Iraq and a hard place.

so true..but i think there is to much division within that government. Sunni VS Shi'ite ,that's why they cant get there act together, its also another reason why we should leave.
and no its not the iraqi military fighting the battles , its mostly the U.S . which is why they probably dont want us to leave.

The Iraqis are doing their part. They formed a government. Their military is winning battles all the time. Your complaint should be with the left wing liberals in the main stream media. They are too busy counting bodies to tell you what has been going on.
