Do you think travel within our own country is equally important to travel overseas?

Question

People always say it's very important for us to learn about other countries' cultures and should travel overseas more often. Do you think we should also learn about our own country as well by travel to other states and coast to learn more about our country first?

I'm just asking, I don't really have a point here. So you can answer whatever you have in your mind about traveling.

Travel within the U.S. is the best way to learn about this wonderful country of ours. I moved around a lot as a child, moms second husband was in computers back when IBM meant "Ive Been Moved". I've seen a great deal of the countyy, both as a result of that, and my own military transfers and duty stations while in the Navy. By all means, go, see, explore, absolutely DO NOT spend your entire life in one small town, you will have no perspective on life in this country of ours.

I have traveled --- and lived --- coast to coast, and border to border. There is so much more that I would like to see.
I have also been to Korea (courtesy of the U.S. Army) and went on several USO tours. I stopped over in Japan several times. My wife is a Filipina, so I have seen quite a bit of the Philippines. I have been to Mexico several times. The Army sent me to Germany; I then went to Austria, Leichtenstein, Andorra, Spain, Portugal, Morrocco, France, and Switzerland. There is so much more to see in those countries, and all the other countries I have not been to.
My main emphasis is travel in the U.S. as I was born here and my ancestors have been here for hundreds of years. I would like to visit at least some of the places where ancestors lived.
Most Americans are first or second generation Americans and really have no idea what America is about; I do, and I definitely want to see more of the country, more of the people.
To me, it is more important to see one's own country first.
