No, anyone can put something on lay-away. But believe me, you are too young to be engaged. Enjoy your freedom while you can.

In most places , contracts with minors ( under 18) are not legal / binding ,
So a business will rarely get into it with them .

Also , buy the ring when you can afford it .
Down payment says you are shopping 'Above' your income .
Baaaaad way to start life .

If you are applying for credit, then most places will require that you are 18 and that you have a steady job. There are probably some shady places that will do it, but they will charge you a ridiculous interest rate. Shop around and find the best prices, don't rush in to anything, you have plenty of time.

If you're putting money down on a ring, you better pack it up and quit life. You're going to have a rough road financially.
