Anyone can pray to God, but only believers have faith that their prayers will be answered.

you can pray as an atheist but the Bible says the only prayer God answers for the unbeliever is the prayer of salvation. He is not blessing you with what you pray for if you have rejected His Son, Christ.
If your prayers ARE being answered..then you can be pretty well assured that it is satan giving you what you want to KEEP you as an unbeliever. If you think you can get everything you want and not believe in God..thats exactly how he wants you to keep thinking and lose your soul.

Well, I had two roommates who weren't Christian but said, "Jesus Christ!" all the time as a swear-type exclamation...uh...not sure what they meant.
Were they invoking him? Blaming him? Why would they mention a guy they didn't worship, when the phrase didn't have any particular significance to them?
Sure, you could.
I suppose you could "pray" and fake it...I suppose.
A priest could read a service and not believe in it, I guess. Act like a priest, say the lines.
But I'd say most priests believe somewhat in God (maybe not Mother Teresa...but she wasn't a priest. And nobody was supposed to find out about her doubts.)

Technically, the need to pray, and knowing full well you know nothing about the truth of a god or God, would make you Agnostic.

Actually yes, you can. You don't have to believe that it works, or that there is a God at all to pray. I mean let us say we are trapped in a mine. We've already tried everything to escape... hell, why not try praying... it doesn't hurt to try. You don't have to believe it will work... you can be convinced it won't work, and it almost certainly won't work. But, if you are bored... I see no reason why you can't do it.
Edit: I agree that it won't be sincere.

Yes, you can. Pray, "God, please show me if you are real. Reveal yourself to me in the people and circumstances around me. Thank you very much. Amen." If you really want to know, He'll be glad to show you. Be ready for Him to show you in unexpected ways, however.
And what does praying to God make you? It makes you a very intelligent person! Have a very good day.

No, the two are mutually incompatible.
An atheist does not believe in a god.

You can meditate or chant, but if you actually pray towards what you believe is a "god" then you aren't a COMPLETE atheist.

Sure.
If you don't get an answer, you may continue to increase the probability that your belief system is correct.
If you do, you might want to rethink the whole atheist deal.

It makes you someone who is unsure of their own beliefs.
You might be talking about a 'Theist'. someone who believes there is a god, or whatever, but does not necessarily follow any religion
